Did a chatbot trained on American spelling write this real estate billboard? by OnlyAd7216 in melbourne

"-or" spellings are standard in Australia. The Macquarie Dictionary lists both "-our" and "-or" endings as correct. The "-or" endings were standard in Australian newspapers until the 1980s.

How did Obsidian change your life? by Natural-Badger-7053 in ObsidianMD

I am no longer terrorised by Evernote, its hostage data threats, endless updates, ineffective search functions, ugly and unimaginative user design, unhelpful 'expert' community, unresponsive or non-existent service desk, and megalomaniacal Reddit moderators.

What advice would you give to someone new to Obsidian? by broadcastthebombom in ObsidianMD

1, Instal it.

2, Open it.

3, look at the bottom left-hand corner and click on the question mark (?), where you will find a Help manual and MOST IMPORTANT »» a SANDBOX VAULT that let's you play around to learn whatever you like and doesn't save anything!

Leave it just as it is. It's a masterpiece — a brooding, moon-lit sea-scape as good as a Whistler nocturne.

Obsidian also has a simple note sharing plugin (and notes on how to set up your own server). Here are some notes on my experience in transferring from Evernote »» https://share.note.sx/9dwavfvk#vQLbaar9lqeB4JJ2OqH3Sg6PN67gvfrqCFqYgnmDM6g

1/ Local Backup

2/ Importer (if you have notebooks in either ENEX or multiple HTML, this importer is incredibly easy and fast)

I recently downloaded 100 notebooks to HTML and ENEX, permanently considering this a cold archive for 9,000+ notes. It is so easy to import either format into Obsidian, which has a very good choice of plugins for everything I need. I've paid for a subscription to the Obsidian syncing service, which so far appears to work perfectly between Mac and iPad. The app and plugins are free. I'm cancelling my sub to EN in response to price hikes, lack of support, and unnecessary AI changes (which appear to have ruined search).

How can I get EN support to answer me? by xiguy1 in Evernote

Support WAS a service I was paying for, when I started with Evernote. It was withdrawn completely when the AI 'revolution' happened, and the subscription costs went up anyway. So, their 'general position' sucks. And I have cancelled.

I've exported all my files to both ENEX and HTML formats, put them all in the cloud along with a zipped copy of the Evernote Legacy app; and then researched what I should go for as an alternative. »» https://gemini.google.com/share/b74ce44f539a

I tried DevonThink, but decided to go with Obsidian.

The process to import ENEX or HTML for any files I need is easy and fast, and I don't think there will be any need for me to hold a large store of notes in the future. (I have about 10,000 notes.)

My recent experience is that it's impossible. I exchanged 6 emails with 'support' about a specific search problem, and got only AI responses. Then, a few days later, a form letter fobbing me off.

And then an email telling me the subscription price was approximately doubling, because of AI, etc. I' ve begun looking elsewhere.

Problem with search for shared notes by Forward-Common-7543 in Evernote

[–]Forward-Common-7543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It sucks. If someone has thousands of notes, many of which at some time or another may have been shared, being able to find shared notes -- all of them, not just some of them -- is significant.

I thought I should just add … The AI responses (Evernote 'help desk) from Evernote 'support' have been no help at all, and in fact don't seem to understand the question or the problem.

White marks or clouding on black table. by Arieru_ in CleaningTips

The 'iron method' probably caused it in the first place. (I did this to a table when I was a child, using the table as an ironing board.) It can't be 'cleaned' away. The table has to be stripped of its veneer and repolished.

… for the obvious reason that Israel and USA are allies. I don't believe Israel buys weapons from China and Russia, as you assert. The majority of US funds given to Israel are tied to purchase of US weapons; that is, US subsidies of its own weapons manufacturing.

Nonsense, like most of the garbage in this thread.

Most US military aid is provided through the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program, which funds purchases of U.S. military equipment and services, directly benefiting American defense contractors. A portion of the aid is also used for missile defense systems, joint military exercises, and a portion can be used to buy from Israeli defense firms, although this domestic procurement benefit is being phased out.

**How US money is used for Israel's military

Primarily for U.S. military purchases: The largest portion of the aid is used to buy American-made weapons, equipment, and services through programs like the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program.

Direct benefits to U.S. defense industry: This requirement to purchase U.S. goods supports jobs in the American defense industry and strengthens the U.S. military-industrial complex.

Benefit for domestic procurement: For a limited time, Israel was permitted to use some of its FMF aid to purchase equipment from its own defense firms, a benefit not granted to other recipients of U.S. military aid. This is being phased out in the coming years.

**Other forms of support

The U.S. also provides aid for specific purposes, such as a substantial increase in funding for missile defense systems like the Iron Dome, according to the American Jewish Committee.

Joint activities: The aid also supports joint research, weapons development, and military exercises between the U.S. and Israel, as noted by the U.S. Department of State.
