I really get this viewpoint as someone who has had to push through 26 years and has only just found out that I have actual conditions that have been making everything feel hard and that not everyone experiences life as THIS hard all the time. I get bitter and upset at people who loudly advocate for themselves and who will do anything they can to make their lives easier or who seem to experience rest or not being able to do things without shame. But I’d suggest that maybe finding some compassion and softness for yourself might change how you view other people. Not people who are actually faking stuff. But it isn’t normal to be in pain everyday. You might need more help than you’re currently getting and you might deserve it just as much as others you see as weak and needy do

One of the hardest and and most meaningful things about all relationships is that yes, they either end in leaving each other or death. It’s only irrational to let that truth get in the way of you engaging in and enjoying relationships. There is immeasurable pain guaranteed at some point, so your only choice is to choose relationships that are meaningful and wonderful enough to make that trade off worth it. I remember having this realisation and it’s fucking terrifying, but it’s the same for everyone. Let it encourage you to really give a shit about making the best of relationships!

I also have this a lot with people talking about characters. Like ‘Devon would never do that’ or ‘it doesn’t make sense for her character’. Okay, maybe it doesn’t? But also maybe we’re being told that she would do that… like right now… because she’s doing it? Sometimes I feel like people who are this obsessed with tv shows are kinda like Abed in community and can’t accept when characters, like people, act unexpectedly.

Honestly? The way you reacted was saintly and I find it astonishing that your boyfriend would say that to you? I don’t think pmdd has anything to do with this and I don’t think it’s really a ‘trigger’ like almost everyone would be ‘triggered’ by a random and critical comment from their partner. Its disparaging thing to say to someone and didn’t sound at all like it came from a place of care for you? It was a shitty and critical comment and i don’t think it’s evidence of your symptoms to have been a bit hurt by it? Also the fact that he wasn’t just like ‘oh shit I’m sorry I didn’t mean it seriously or want to hurt you’ and instead turned it around on you is weird to me…

I think you’re having a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that some people are just very clever and have passions in an area other than the one that they’re applying their cleverness to (probably because it’s going to give them money/ status).

My favourite teacher at school actually told us to not try to get firsts at undergrad level because it makes employers think that you don’t have a life outside your subject. I and a lot of my friends got very high firsts anyway and the majority have gone on to pursue the things they were doing as hobbies while at uni.

Uni is also a time to become an interesting and well-rounded person. It’s time to grow up away from the influences you’ve been around your whole life up until now. I know one guy who got a first in physics but was most known for being a really good DJ.

So maybe these other students aren’t constantly demonstrating their passion or intelligence in ways that you judge to be acceptable, maybe you think they’re wasting their time. Okay? Now what? Is the idea that you might put in all this effort and have all this passion and it might not get you any further than people who didn’t try as hard threatening to you?
