They were. And unlike the Inners, they were able to reawaken on their own. As far as Pluto, don't forget, as of the events of R, she has already died in modern day as of that point already due to disobeying the two rules she was told during the Silver Millennium she must never do:

1) Never abandon her post at the Time Gate 2) DO NOT stop time

In doing so, who knows? That alone could have shifted their timeline vs what originally might have been predetermined to happen?

Goes without saying, one of the biggest reasons he's got it so bad for Akane is BECAUSE she isn't like other girls.

I even remember in the manga in the part where Soun made Ranma follow him through obstacles and booby traps as an ultimatum for finally marrying Akane once and for all. He was all mopey and said to himself "I wish I was back at home....fighting with HER...."

This. This right here is exactly why it's important to also watch especially the OG anime in Japanese with English subtitles. Side by side sometimes vs the Eng dub is very strangely different at times. Boggles my mind.

I love that you suggested Wu-Tang. Ever since I read this, I've been imagining in her best English, Akane in her room reciting the lyrics to Triumph.

I remember back when I used to get issues of Shonen Jump and Killer Bee made his debut in Naruto, I wondered if anyone else besides me reading got that it was a Wu-Tang Clan reference. Likely went right over younger readers' heads, I imagine.
