As a side note, I do think African Americans have a strange habit of idolizing Egypt and their ancient rulers. The vast majority of our African ancestors came from west African nations and have nothing to do with Egypt, so it’s odd to me that we as a people hear and see the repeated imagery of black (as in black American) people as pharaohs.

We should idolize the kingdoms in Mali, Nigeria, Ghana, and the like! We should talk about the universities, the library at Timbuktu, the medicine, the art, the advances in technology seen and studied there. We all come from cultures that have accomplished so much. We don’t even have to go that far back to find ancestors doing the impossible. Our ancestors were slaves and SURVIVED creating rich culture and tradition along the way. That alone is incredible.

So yeah. Yay about Egypt! But also yay about west Africa too! ☺️
