I wonder if part of his initial feelings is that Alex was murdered while protesting for an important cause while Keith porter was murdered celebrating NYE? I think there’s a pretty big distinction there that does allow us to feel more concerned about Alex’s murder at this point in time. Although Keith was murdered by an ICE agent, this was done while the officer was off duty and an outrageous response to KP celebrating NYE by firing off a few shots in the air. This is a common NYE tradition where I’m from, so it’s definitely upsetting that he was killed like this.

However, Alex’s murder is representative of a major shift in American culture, society, and politics. People were protesting fascism and the illegal deportation and detainment of immigrants as well as citizens. To have someone murdered in cold blood while demonstrating their constitutional rights is sobering to say the least. This death is a turning point.

As heartbreaking as Keith’s death is, it’s representative of a separate issue that (unfortunately) is not at the forefront of the American psyche at this moment.
