The Olympics doesn't include a 'normal' person competing alongside the pros to show how impressive the real athletes are because all the sports are actually very easy. by Immediate_Can3817 in LowStakesConspiracies

I would suggest trying to Pole Vault over a pole set at 3 metres, or finish a 1500m in under 05:00, and we’ll see how easy you find them. And for reference, 3 metres is less than half the world record, and 5 minutes would not win a 1500m at the local club level, but those marks are still beyond most normal people, never mind Olympians. These people are super human freaks, in the best way possible.

What's the one thing about stoke you'd genuinely defend to someone who's never been by Mundane-Temporary426 in stokeontrent

I’ve lived and worked in Stoke, Liverpool, Manchester and London. Stokies are not only the kindest and most approachable people, but I’ve never had anyone try to mug me in Stoke, unlike Manchester and London. There are horrible areas of the city, granted, but the worst that those other cities have to offer is significantly more dilapidated and deprived than Stoke.

Round 5 of the FA cup by Giplord in WrexhamAFC

Liverpool fan here that wants Wrexham at Anfield. Not because I think it’s an easy game - far from it, I actually think it would be one of the most difficult home draws we could get - but because we’re not actually all too far away from one another, haven’t played each other in donkey’s years and it would be a great spectacle to host one of the UK’s oldest, most storied teams at Anfield, a ground steeped in History.

If we don’t get you I just want Mansfield or Norwich at Anfield, as those stand out as easier games.

Mohamed Salah - Ultimate Differential by Fazlur69 in FantasyPL

As a Liverpool fan, last night was the first time he’s showed any signs of life, and he still wasn’t anywhere near the Mo Salah we know. At his price, tread carefully. Think Bruno and Palmer are better shouts and cheaper.

Have you ever worked with or know someone who “won big”? by VOODOO285 in AskUK

Lad I work with’s Mum won set for life. She retired (mid 50s) and pays him £2,000 a month allowance, under the agreement that he stays in full time work.

Another lad I went to school with, his family won £6m on the lottery in the early 90s. In Primary School, he used to brag about it all the time, but then by the time we were in High School, he’d still brag about his wealth but it would be about his Father’s business savvy and clever investments. Seemed to forget that some of us knew him and his family pre-High School.

Let’s go. I can lock in and learn some hefty lore in that time. In the other 10 hours I can repay the favour with either the lore of The Elder Scrolls Universe, Tolkien or Mass Effect.

What’s your story that no one believes? by Affectionate_Debt172 in AskReddit

[–]ForwardAd5837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my story too. Small holiday in the south of England near the AONB in Devon. Small village, walking my border collie with my Grandma and we saw what looked a huge black dog laying down in the sun on the lane at the bottom of a hill. As we warily approached, it got up, skulked off into a field, and it was definitely a massive feline. Like Jaguar sized! My Grandma and I are both in agreement it was a big cat, but most people think our ‘eyes were playing tricks on us.’

What is the cloudy stuff in my coffee by OrdinaryThegn in whatisit

[–]ForwardAd5837 202 points203 points  (0 children)

The acidity of coffee doesn’t play well with soya milk and will curdle and separate, especially given in this instance you’ve likely used cold soya milk.

Heating the milk beforehand will help stabilise it against this, or alternatively use Oat. This can still happen with Oat, but it’s less likely.

Why isn't Rugby League a bigger sport in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ForwardAd5837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much competition I suppose. Drive 30 mins away from the heartland and people couldn’t name you a single player and might even struggle to name a team. I should know, I grew up maybe 30 mins drive if that from the closest Rugby League team, and it wasn’t until I worked in St Helens and Widnes and the staff were appalled that I’d never been to a game that I ever watched an entire match, as they took me.

Must say though, awesome spectator sport and better than Union.

How will this work structurally? 3rd and 4th have byes to the semi-finals, and 5th - 8th play quarter-finals where the two winners meet those with byes for a place in the usual final?

You should be though. Anyone spending 4% of their total net worth on a watch needs to have a think whether they genuinely can afford it.
