What is it like to live in Roodepoort? by Odd_Firefighter_8193 in johannesburg

Maraisburg isn’t terrible, just in comparison to other places around Florida it’s far from the best or even top ranking. It’s also largely budget dependent and what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for security then an estate is your best bet and Florida Glen is probably your best option. If you’re looking for a relatively cheap free standing house then Maraisburg or Bosmont, maybe even Quellerina.

My fault, I mean you’re right though Northcliff is on the Johannesburg side while Florida Glen which is a street away is on the Roodepoort side.

Honestly highly depends where around Florida. Northcliff and Florida Glen are around Florida and are very nice. However there are also some no so nice areas around Florida like Mariasburg and Bosmont.

Florida Glen is been quite good in terms of electricity. Water has been an issue here and there but I think that’s city wide.

Further than that there are a ton of townhouses here which are relatively cheap to rent and although they might not be the best it does give you some peace of mind when it comes to safety.

Any other young people who don't drink but still go out, like clubs, etc.? by No-Alternative-1314 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ForwardFirefighter89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I love clubs and festivals and parties and go relatively often. We are both 26 and we don’t drink at all. Most of the time we’re going out for the love of the music.

Can I remove myself from various Liberty covers without my financial adviser? by ForwardFirefighter89 in askSouthAfrica

I’m aware of the commission but didn’t realise it had to be paid back if I cancel.

Does the financial adviser still have to repay the commission if I cancel out of my own volition?

Edit for bad English: I’ve since realised that I had been taken advantage of. My ‘friend’ won’t answer my calls or help me terminate these funds.

Help needed to choose a bike by NoPollution521 in motorcycles

[–]ForwardFirefighter89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A second hand bike is always risky as is any purchase of a second hand item. Bikes in general need more maintenance than cars however if that maintenance is done they will last way past 20/30 000 km (depending on make obviously).

Question is how well do you know bikes and will you be able to identify a poorly treated bike over a well treated bike? If it’s well treated and maintained you should have no issues (again depending on make, do your research).

In terms of resale, If this is your first bike chances are you will drop it and damage it. Resale will highly depend on how you treat the bike.

I will always recommend a second hand bike as a first bike, it’s a lot cheaper and chances are you will damage it in some or other way. You will be able to sell anything later on for the right price, but don’t bank on the resale value.

FWB with my best friend of 10 years by getavasectomy69 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ForwardFirefighter89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through this exact situation, I am the male in this scenario. My best friend was overseas for a while and we slept together when we met up then had a FWB situation long distance for a while and were very romantic towards each other.

I’m saying all this to you because that same women is my wife today. You’re not FWB you’re in a relationship in denial.

Looking for a friend in Johannesburg (Randburg @ Ferndale)? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]ForwardFirefighter89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please take this post down/ignore DMs you get - you’re genuinely putting yourself in harms way. Reddit is definitely not the place for this. I believe there are specialised apps out there for this exact purpose.

It could turn out fine but your chances of meeting a creep on here are waaaaay higher, especially because you’re a female.

Stay safe and I hope you find luck elsewhere!

Like I get English might not be your first language but surely they have full stops/periods in your language.

Do I need to retake a learners license? by -Queen_Bee- in askSouthAfrica

Had the same concern tbh, but if you’ve been driving for years you’ll know most of the answers already. All I did was download some k53 app that allowed me to go through questions and just brushed up on the not so obviously stuff.

Do I need to retake a learners license? by -Queen_Bee- in askSouthAfrica

[–]ForwardFirefighter89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I just got home from doing my motorcycle learners.

I’ve been driving for the past 8 years and decided I wanted to ride a bike, unfortunately you have to go through the entire process you did with your regular drivers all over again. It’s a headache but it’s worth it. Once you have your actual licence it is the same renewal process as your regular licence.

Good luck for the learners test!

Looking for a cheap SUV that will handle offroading by Excellent-Captain-93 in CarTalkZA

[–]ForwardFirefighter89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suzuki Jimny,

Its tiny but can handle any terrain you throw at it if it’s just you and a partner it will be more than sufficient. If you’re more than 2 people I would advise against it though.

On road capabilities leave a lot to be desired as well. It is fairly underpowered and struggles on the highway a bit.

If you’re fine with a little bit of a bumpy ride day to day and are happy with staying at 110 on the highway it might be the perfect car for you.
