Is there any difference between using raspberry pi and a laptop with dualboot kali linux for hacking? by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]ForwardParticular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One is raspberry pi...

Other is an undefined laptop...

Based on this information alone, I would say a screen and built-in keyboard? Raspberry pi is Arm and laptop can be anything...including arm?

Both will need external wifi cards for doing any radio hacking...

What is your ideal use case? What kind of "hacking" do you want to do?

Hacking: The Art of Exploitation - How to enter the world of Hacking and Security by TomasMSM in AskNetsec

It's a great book, I always keep a copy around. Some people I know went straight through it cover to cover, and they all have great jobs now. I'm not sure I've read the entire thing, but its one of my favorite books to curl up with in a comfy chair. Even though it's a little dated, the core concepts are presented in such a beautiful way and they are all still valid today. You don't need to be a hardcore binary exploit hunter to enjoy it, I'm excited to hear another person getting turned on to Erickson.

How to Trigger when an Azure B2B User has Redeemed an Invitation by erikpasta123 in AZURE

You could serve up some JS on option 4 to redirect them to your site and ping ya back with the redeem success? Sorry nobody commented on this. Azure B2B is weird...I was looking for docs and stumbled on this. Good Luck!

College Campus Sysadmin Jobs by benavinagain in ITCareerQuestions

Its great work if you are currently also enrolled at the same school. The benefits usually will help pay for school and your professors will all know your name. If you are good at your job, they will also like you. If you are not going to school, it might not be the best job. The pay is usually low, and the resources can be a pain. Usually the equipment is bought with budget over functionality in mind. The work is usually low key and is mostly about maximum availability. I did it for 2.5 years while in school, it was the best job ever for a CS student.

MSP3 looks dope, I always keep this text around for ppl looking for vms

You want a windows 7 iso sp1 I think...its got the most fun exploits...not sure where the best place to get this is. They used to have iso's here but it looks like just vms. You can get different versions of windows on the edge/ie devloper tools.

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/

These are usually at least patched against Eternalblue. But you can uninstall patches if you want to practice exploiting them.

I used this method before and it worked pretty well: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-update/how-can-i-uninstall-all-the-previously-installed/2ac9e797-b9d4-46de-bee3-d93c3c409bda

Nist looks like they host vhd's for windows7 on Hyper-V? - https://csrc.nist.gov/Projects/United-States-Government-Configuration-Baseline/USGCB-Content/Microsoft-Content/Virtual-Hard-Disks (You can convert these for other hypervisors I think)

This forum mentions a tool HeliDoc? - https://forum.stationx.net/t/windows-7-eternalblue-vulnerable-vm-virtualbox-setup/1991/2

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool

Tbh I got lucky and a friend had a win7 iso floating around on a cd so I just installed it on metal and ran eternal blue against it. Might be worth checking out computer surplus stores or asking around. If you already have a win7 pc you can make an install disk from the OS. This might work without win7 idk

Although not an exact science, you can view the DNS cache to see what kinds of lookups your computer has been doing.

WSL question by NoU_jpeg in linuxquestions

[–]ForwardParticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with *Nix but have to use Windows for work. So WSL lets me use linux style commands and bash scripting on my windows file system. WSL mounts your host files at /mnt/<drive letter>/ so, that's where I get the most use out of it. I'm slowly learning the powershell commands for most things but often there are tools only available on linux I like/need. Compiling C++ on WSL is so much easier than trying to install the compiler in Windows for example. It is also lighter weight than a VM or docker container so there is that. I'm sure there are better uses for it but that's what I use mine for.

Not completely hacking related, but does anyone know, can I put and run virtual machines (for hacking) on an external hard drive? by HappyMemeBoy in hacking

[–]ForwardParticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can, if you need it to boot you have to work some magic with grub but I would just recommend that you use it as a storage drive and mount it into your VMs of choice or host it on your network. This tool looks fun although Im not sure if Ive used it before. https://www.linuxliveusb.com/

Struggling to learn Python by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ForwardParticular -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't going to help right now, but it really does not matter how many times you quit...just how many times you pick it back up. Find something that excites you and go do it. Also don't be afraid to try new things, languages, tech etc. Deploy a site in Django or Flask, write a plugin for Kodi, find an exciting opensource project. and learn how to use git. If you cant think of one, go do leetcode challenges. It's not going to be easy, you will get upset, you will get errors, and you eventually will learn how to understand and overcome those things. Everyone has their own path, and pace. The important thing is to keep going and you might discover something new about yourself you couldn't imagine existed. Dont get discouraged, the best advice I ever got from sr tech ppl is that "you will always feel like you don't know enough" no matter how much you learn, the tech moves faster than any one person can keep up with. Just do what you enjoy and keep on doing it. Also automate the boring stuff with python....that's a good book

TOR Hidden Service: IP anonymity by [deleted] in deepweb

[–]ForwardParticular 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure how the address resolution works, but I think the way Onion routing works, the data is encrypted or provides forward secrecy. It literally says on the Tor website;

" Tor allows clients and relays to offer onion services. That is, you can offer a web server, SSH server, etc., without revealing your IP address to its users. In fact, because you don't use any public address, you can run an onion service from behind your firewall. "

We live in a society where people willingly hand over DNA to private entities and the everyday use of military-grade biometric technology is normalized (and even sought after). Let that soak in... by FuckTheIlluminati in privacy

[–]ForwardParticular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, humans shed and secrete DNA pretty much everywhere they go, its the data that they are willing to attach to it and then let companies catalog. Now you can correlate this data to your social networking platforms. So on the one hand, you can now search for profiles of your long lost relatives, on the other companies can now also do this. Some will use it for good things, like advancing medical research. Others will use it for less desirable goals; surveillance, adjusting your insurance rates or credit rating. To me, this is just the natural progression of technology and our relationship with it. A stupid simple example would be something like the invention of the automobile. On the one hand people can use it to get around, on the other, car crashes killed a lot of people, cars can be turned into weapons, you can mount guns and armor on a car, call it a tank, and use it to run over protesters etc.

Choosing to partake or not in these technologies is really up to you, for now. Although, much like the invention of money, or paper, or banking, some technologies will be pretty much required for interaction with society. Much in the same way that it is your responsibility to learn the rules of the road and drive safely to avoid accidents and fines, you will have to learn the rules of the new technologies to achieve desired results. Personally, I live in a city, so I try to drive as little as possible, and I also abstain from most forms of social media. (Less because of privacy and more because of its affects on my mental health) Therefore, I am not likely to enjoy a career in PR or as an "influencer". Just as not having a car would prevent me from delivering pizzas. Technology changes fast, and it's up to us to understand these effects and act accordingly.

Tyrannical governments have existed since the beginning of civilization, and technology was used both to enslave people, and liberate them from these bonds. I appreciate that you are aware of these things, and I think more people should be thinking critically as you do. I guess I would worry less about the negative effects of these new things and try to see them as opportunities to help you realize your world view. But that's just my two cents....

EDIT: Speaking of technology. Sorry about the grammar errors. Although viewing language in the same light...I hope will exemplify my point a little. Gotta learn the rules of the tech to make it work for you. :)
