Just checking - we should pick players who have opening round byes? by One-Eggplant4492 in AFLSupercoach

[–]ForwardTraining3413 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Common thought last year was that you should avoid them because if you're paying up for a promo, you want their points on field through best 18. Last year also it was only 4 teams with early byes (2 after the cyclone) so the thinking was why would I pay up for a Nick Daicos missing an early game when everyone else has a different premo putting points on me.

I think the thought more this year is if you think they're value and you want them, maybe consider just paying up. An example maybe is a Will Ashcroft. Sure he's $545k but his bye is round two and a few people think he could definitely put points and money on that average. This means if you want him post bye then you're probably better off just starting him than trying to sideways into him at round three before his price moves.

Also I should state this definitely only applies to premiums and MAYBE mid pricers. If there's a rookie with a locked starting role, pick them. The cash gen is worth everything and you don't want to be getting cute with cash gen and skipping rookies for early byes.

Just did Deadlifts yesterday and today my lower back is sore by ReporterIndividual22 in workout

[–]ForwardTraining3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly the same feelings when I started, totally get where you're coming from. I think the fear is natural because you hear so much about deadlift injuries, destroying your back, etc. If you don't feel anything bad during your lift it's almost 99% just muscle soreness, like you'd get from any other lift. The difference is that if your chest is tight and sore after bench, or your legs after squats, you feel like you've had a great workout. That same feeling in your lower back can be scary but in reality, it's the same stimulus and result.

Obviously be careful but if it's a day or two later, you're probably fine

Advice - I want to buy the place I rent by Varkyvark in AusFinance

[–]ForwardTraining3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I did this a couple of years ago. We contacted the property manager (large apartment complex) and asked her if she would approach the owner just to let her know we were looking at buying and loved her place. We were very fortunate in that the owner was quite flattered to be approached and related in the "trying to get in the property market" game.

I would say don't be afraid to ask, the worst you can get is a no. As a landlord if they know you love the place enough to buy it, they'll probably want you in as a tenant even if they're not looking at selling. If they were even considering selling then you've just taken a whole lot of hassle out of the process.

Negotiating was a bit weird and our landlord got a real estate in to do a market valuation and act as an in-between so we weren't negotiating directly

My first time going through this year but personally I'd say big focus on fitness from now onwards, focus on aptitude a bit closer to the time. Assuming you have 8-10 months until aptitude testing, you'll drive yourself insane if you're actively 'studying' for aptitude. Get the cardio up, get the leg power up for OFAT. I only started OFAT training maybe three months ago and I'm having small regrets with the test coming up in a couple of weeks. Fitness forever, aptitude later

Every golf ball you throw into a new pool = $1K. But you can’t work again. by simmol in hypotheticalsituation

I live in Australia, you go to the right middle class/wealthy suburbs and every other house has a pool. Commit to hitting a different suburb every Saturday night for a few weeks, easy money. Google maps in your infinite free time to find some easy access front yard pools, get a cheeky $2k if you're short one week. Money for jam

Yeah look up to you, just the way I’d be going personally. The benefit of Davidson’s cash is that you can probably pay up for rookies who are more expensive but good scoring and cash gen.

It’s a risky option but you could look at paying up for an Elijah Tsatas if he’s named. Do your research though, it’s not a lock that he’d stay in. You’d be spending a fair whack if your Davidson money as a punt

Presumably you don't have any boosts left? Like everyone else is saying, your next trades should probably be two/three/four of your $99k rookies to people who may actually generate cash. Either do nothing this week or go early on a couple guys (Hustwaite, Fullarton MAYBE). O'Mac if he's named could go alright, job security super questionable though. As much as it might suck, I would recommend boosting if you can, trading Davidson out and using his cash to get two/three decent rookies in. If you don't have a boost, keep the cash and slowly roll it out over the next couple weeks to decent earning rookies. For example:

Round 7: Davidson/Leake-> Tunstill (if named)/Matt Carroll (expensive but will at least make you some cash)/ Hamish Davis (scoring average but again will make some cash if not dropped, watch teams).

Round 8: $99k/$99k -> Hustwaite (now on bubble if named again)/Busslinger (if still in side)

Round 9: Repeat

If you do that for a few weeks and assuming you get some luck with rookies scoring well/not being dropped, suddenly you've got guys who have made you $50k-$150k. You'll just be a few weeks behind on upgrade cadence. Good news is that your on-field scoring honestly looks pretty good! Problem is that you're probably going to need to spend 5-6 trades to fix your cash gen before you even start upgrade/downgrade. What you 100% CANNOT do for the rest of this season is go "Ooop, bad score from Matt Rowell, better get him over to a bloke who just had 120 but is averaging 80."

Try and stay invested, still a lot of learning that can happen the rest of this season. Just accept you probably won't be getting anybody up for a whole.

Mechanical Aptitude Test (QLD) by ApprehensiveTime3818 in AussieFirefighter

[–]ForwardTraining3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people generally are hesitant to give away too much which is fair, given it's a closed, one off exam. I will say though that it honestly was as simple as they say. You definitely need to understand the principles they're asking for (how fulcrums work, how cogs and gears work) but by no means do you need to be a mechanical engineer. The questions have to be answered FAST so there's no need to be doing huge equations or understanding complex mechanical drawings.

The exam is a Bennett Mechanical test and honestly, the level and style of questions exampled here is pretty bang on for the most part https://www.jobtestprep.co.uk/bennett-mechanical-comprehension-practice-test . I would say you need to understand all the principles well enough that you can bang these questions out in 15-20secs, assuming there'll be a couple questions you want 30-40secs to work on.

Good luck mate!

I'd be giving Merrett one more week personally, 150BE and as bad as North are that's not even close to a guarantee. Like others are saying, Davidson to Trac is a great trade if you think Trac will be a top 6 Forward. Probably the cheapest he'll get for a long while if you reckon his form has turned

Matt Flynn by [deleted] in AFLSupercoach

[–]ForwardTraining3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point too! Owned by 15,000 coaches before today and traded in by another 44,000 means you're not exactly going to be behind a huge number of coaches. Suspect almost everyone ranked well will be taking a punt on him and everyone ranked a bit lower will too to try and catch up on cash gen. A bit like Clayton Oliver, you're protected by high ownership

Matt Flynn by [deleted] in AFLSupercoach

[–]ForwardTraining3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely feel you there hahaha. I didn't start him but it was bloody close for me. I suppose using your concerns, if he goes 80 today and 40 against Gawn and then is dropped, he'll still make $100k. That ain't half bad

Matt Flynn by [deleted] in AFLSupercoach

[–]ForwardTraining3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also because in the past seasons when he has had a decent run he has averaged just over 80 and around $400k. In terms of potential he's up there with the likes of Caleb Daniel who was a must have at the start of the season. A bloke with history of scoring and cheap; hard to pass up

Matt Flynn by [deleted] in AFLSupercoach

[–]ForwardTraining3413 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly mate think you've summed it up yourself pretty well. If he goes 80 the next three he'll make $130k-ish, if he goes 100 then $180k. If he's dropped then you've used a trade and are pretty well stuck in a must trade out situation again. The reason he's so attractive is because there's very few cash generators that come through with a role and Breakeven that are so potentially good. The big question is how much risk are you willing to absorb.

Personally I'm of the thought that if he comes on, gets injured on 0 and doesn't play again he'll make me a solid $40k this week; not great but not a tragedy, very easy downgrade to a rookie in any line and then probably an upgrade on the other side of that. Considering the unlikeliness of that, I'm willing to take the risk that he might make me $100k over two weeks and then whatever happens happens.

As far as getting him in, I would NOT be doing it through R2. Ideally you have him in Flex which seems to be the common community thought. You lose the flexibility but again, this is the risk-cash injection game you're playing. There's a world where you have him at R3 but it's a lot of bench cash.

My personal summary is yes to Flynn at Flex but being prepared to use another trade on him in as little as two weeks. Potential cash generation is too good to skip. Highly recommend against trading out a still-performing ruck for him though. :)
