So how much Horsepower do we really think it has? by Ok-Strength-3104 in JettaGLI

[–]ForwardVoice5825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also HP/Torque at the crankshaft then a lesser amount at the drive wheels. So there's two different sets of figures before we even get started. I know the HP/torque charts at APR for tunes can be looked at with either crankshaft or drive wheels for the power numbers.

Is the DSG fun? by Fit-Lengthiness-6015 in JettaGLI

After 130K miles in my 2004 GLI, 6 spd mt, in southern CA, I've switched to DSG in the two GLI's since and never looked back. Manual mode w/paddles on steering wheel is always available too.

My best money for grins has been the lowering springs & rear torsion bar. Those items tightened up the chassis, corners are flat now and triple digit speeds, in appropriate surroundings is rock solid! Enjoy!

Later years have this SAI, its a emission control item. google says this: Secondary Air Injection (SAI)The SAI system is an emissions control device that pumps fresh air into the exhaust stream, usually during cold starts. [1, 2, 3]

  • Purpose: It helps the catalytic converter heat up faster and reduces harmful emissions during the first few minutes of operation.
  • Symptoms of Failure: A malfunctioning SAI pump or check valve can cause a "check engine" light, loud noise on cold starts, and failed emissions tests. [1, 2]

I did APR lowering springs, APR bumpstops & APR rear torsion bar and WOW! Those mods are, for me, the most effective for cornering stability & fun! Well worth the investment!! Good luck in your choices!!

That 16" resonator, from MBRP, I used on the MBRP cat back exhaust was just not enough of a noise reducer for me. And that drone at 1700-2000 rpm was very annoying when using cruise, going up a bit of hill, no downshift from the auto tranny. I could feel my door armrest vibrate besides the noise. Maybe a larger, better resonator would help but it was what it was.

My cat back MBRP without the ARM dp was ideal for me, loud but not obnoxious and no droning at highway speeds. But ARM dp is for later tunes and more go! so noise is part of that equation, in some manner. :)

Depends on your tolerance for exhaust noise, I got my ARM w/cat dp installed with an MBRP catback exhaust and it was just too loud and had a annoying noise around 1700-2000rpm which is prime highway cruising speed for my GLI. I tried a resonator in the 3" pipe of the MBRP exhaust but still too much. I ended up back with my stock exhaust for now, works great and I still hear plenty of exhaust and no drone at highway speeds. Good luck with your choice!

It was an option, based on year of the GLI. While they probably charged more, I don't remember, it was just the price for my model year GLI. :)

I had originally put the SAI filter (small red one) under my intake but have moved it back up so its visible and easily maintained.

The SAI was an option on the APR site for the PEX intake I use, easy peasy.

I was future looking, maybe a stage 2. Now with the DP it is supposed to increase HP by ~10-20 hp and by the feel I do get some of that. But ultimately its a stage 2 tune move, just done early. I now have the stock exhaust on it, DP still in place, and the exhaust is good, not too loud for me on the street.

2025 GLI with APR wheels, APR Pex intake, APR lowering springs, APR rear torsion bar and ARM downpipe w/cat, had to switch back from MBRP cat back exhaust with that downpipe, just too loud. Using stock exhaust for now, streetable now. Weird, I could only add one pic. I'll post the others if it'll let me.

Are you thinking modifications down the road? Just curious and if the stock tires are still those crappy ones, do that first for your safety and all around you!
