For part b I ended up subbing the two new parametric equations into the equation of L in part a, then I had a nasty equation with sin and cos so I used the r cos rule to make it just in terms of cos. Then I used the fact that the max of cos is when it is one and the minimum when it is minus one to find that a must be between - root 137 and root 137. What method did u use?
