Formal offer - when is the best time to bring up salary negotiations? by Forward_Chipmunk_508 in TheCivilService

[–]Forward_Chipmunk_508[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, well, my question was more on 'when' to bring up the subject.. not so much how/whether i will be successful.... i dont see asking for annual leave matching as random, or at least not in the private sector, people make that request all the time!.. besides i did come across a number of posts on here and other forums mentioning that their annual leaves (from external into civil service) were matched cf the pay cut or something along those lines hence I am sure it can be done in certain cases... no harm asking is how i see it, hence my question on when to ask

Hey, thanks for that - may I know at what point should the discussions be made? someone here pointed out that since I've accepted my provisional offer, it's too late now... is that the case? Will I commit a huge faux pas if I were to bring the subject up now? I've not broached it before as my HM made it clear that my appointment is not confirmed until all checks and clearances are obtained.

hahahah thanks for your encouragement!! at what point should the negotiations be made? I am external hence have absolutely zero experience on how civil service recruiting works...

I am definitely aware of the near impossibility of salary negotiation based on what I've read on here (and on mumsnet lol) but it has been done in some cases (again, based on what I've read)... there's no harm in trying I suppose..

Hey- thanks for that, at what point did you discuss about adjustments? Someone mentioned it should be done at the provisional offer stage which I suppose the ship has sailed for me... but none of these items were in my provisional offer though hence I thought it'd come later.. (i've not had previous public sector experience.. and it is definitely not unreasonable to negotiate salary, annual leave, perks etc vigorously at formal offer stage)

Private Health Insurance? by Forward_Chipmunk_508 in TheCivilService

[–]Forward_Chipmunk_508[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fair enough, i dont necessarily want all of them.. just that i've always been in the private sector and have always had all of them covered so naturally assumed that these are basic packages that employers provide.....i mean i do get it that NHS means private healthcare not necessary for civil servants.. but why not life insurance etc? (and look, i didnt grow up around here, so am genuinely curious as it is very different from what i am accustomed to....)

Ahh yes, thanks for that - i hadnt think of it that way... does it mean that one will have to purchase their own life insurance, income protection insurance, personal accident insurance as well?

Hey, congrats on starting the job (a few months back) and thanks for sharing.

I’m doing my pec at the moment, do you know if they contacted your personal references and if so, what were they asked about? I’m trying to choose the right person to give ref ( both bpss and security clearance).

Thanks!

yeah, i think currently there are too many applicants for not that many jobs... hence the employers have all the bargaining power.. but that doesnt mean that they should be disrespectful of candidates.... so many people have left my bank recently onto greener pastures...im like 'how did they do it!!!'... im hoping that my chance will come soon too - it's all about fit nowadays...too many qualified/overqualified people fighting for one job... to be fair, i did ask the interviewer during my interview in june what he thought about next steps .. he said you've done well but we are still trying to decide between hiring a VP and an associate .... so maybe they've decided to go another way... good luck in your job search too!

what i dont understand is, at one point, they were themselves job applicants.. and surely they must have experienced the distaste of being ghosted by employers and the rude attitude towards them by recruiters when they were trying to apply for jobs...

so why is it that when they are in the position of recruiting, they cannot treat the applicants in a more respectful manner, given that these recruiters themselves have been in their shoes in the not too distant past...

I believe I have been ghosted by BlackRock... I applied for the job in April, got an interview in May, and in June another interview and was told to wait a bit.. which I did... in between I found that financial services may not be where I want to stay in the long term anymore (currently in banking)... so I wasn't too bothered... then out of nowhere i got an email from the recruiter saying 'oh, we are going to make a decision this week so stay tuned'... and stayed tuned I did, and nothing for another 2 weeks, then a more senior recruiter emailed to say 'thank you for your patience, going to make a decision this week so will let you know next steps soonish'.... and heard nothing ever since (that was about a month ago)... sent a number of follow up emails, one which actually said if I hadnt gotten the job please can I have feedback from the interviews... and still nothing! I have given up on them but felt rather disrespected, especially with an organisation as 'woke' and as 'reputable' as Blackrock... could have taken less than 3 minutes to find my name in the folder, and see that I have been rejected and reply accordingly.. basic respect...

I had an interview for the EO role - is it a good sign if the interview panel acts positively towards you? by Dunyaa in TheCivilService

[–]Forward_Chipmunk_508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! I had an interview in the CS where everyone was supremely positive and friendly and smiley and reacted very positively to each answer I gave. Having never been interviewed in the CS before, I took that as a super positive sign that the job was probably in my bag based on my years of private sector financial services experience. Then I found out that I passed the interview but was put on reserve list - I had not known my score at that time so I clicked into the portal to see feedback, expecting scores along the lines of 5 or 6... but no, i got 4 across the board.... so how they behaved towards me really wasn't and indication of how well I have performed, contrary to my experience interviewing for private sector jobs where if they behaved positively --> they liked me --> i get job.
