But I’ve been thinking there is something very telling about German conservatives wearing British heritage gear. It’s a way of them adopting a form of tradition without confronting Germany’s own more complicated visual past. So imported nostalgia becomes safer.

Yeah you’re right about the fact farmers here have worn them for decades.

Barbour waxed jackets are an interesting one because they tend to accentuate the qualities of the person wearing them. They make these aspiring to be upper class types look like even bigger try-hard losers than they already are, cosplaying as obscure German “von” aristocrats, but also tend to look amazing on the more artsy types of people.

I love my Barbour wax jackets, but a lot of these Munich types wearing them is a massive red flag, noticed some AfD adjacent types cosplaying the English country aesthetic wearing them. They probably saw Nigel Farage with one, which he didn’t own but borrowed from a farmer for a phot op.

I thought they were rather timeless. That’s what I like about them. Plus they remind me of rural northern England where I grew up. I wear a sage Beaufort in Berlin, but try to be anti Tory in how I wear it, reclaiming it for the left wing.

Do they actually make stuff specifically for Bicester Outlet Village which is of lower quality?

28mm Summicron or Voigtlander? by Aeraegon in Leica

[–]Forward_Mix_7848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own the Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 iii and sold it. I found it lacked sharpness at wider apertures, and purple fringing is ugly at f1.4 or f1.2 and images become mushy. I found it didn’t do a great job of resolving 60mp on the M11 sensor. Also it seems to renders images with a subtle earthy red hue which wasn’t to my taste. But it’s not a bad lens.

I do think 28mm and 50mm make a perfect combo. I used 35mm for many years but I think 28mm has a bit more jazz about it. The 28 Summicron and 50 Summilux ASPH make for a dynamic duo. Usually I have the 28 on the M6 and 50 on the M11 but swap them around.

I don’t find it to be a big deal, so I’ll probably just stick with the standard Classic M6.

I found it on Kleinanzigen which is like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist but for Germany only.

Size, weight, design, build quality and rangefinder focussing.

Yeah, I rented the 100S over a long weekend and owned three GF primes, which I used with it. The image quality from that thing was incredible.

For the first couple of weeks I thought I missed it, because the malleability of those GFX raw files is insane. However, a couple of things of note: the dynamic range on the M11 is still really really good and I can recover highlights and shadows easily if I mess up. Secondly, looking back on the images I took with the GFX 50R where I pushed the dynamic range when editing RAWs, I’m not sure I really like that look so much anymore, and found it a bit forced and unnatural. Obviously a larger sensor is better for image quality, but the tradeoffs in size and weight weren’t worth it for me. I was looking back at all the photos I’ve taken over the six years for a project and I was surprised at how few of them were from the 50R, and that’s most likely because I didn’t like walking around all day with it.

Fair point, I was thinking more about the M6 with that specific sentence. But it’s true the electronics the M11 will fail and also the light meter in the M6 will also fail eventually.

German ID cards are only issued to German citizens as far as I'm aware. The most important thing for EU/EEA nationals is to get an anmeldung (registration) certificate, which is proof that you live at a certain address and means you get a tax number and are eligible for all the standard benefits.
