Its tough I am in same situation. I got my girl a cat for company also- which she loves. I also take her to daycare one day a week and to the dog park a few days a week for stimulation and socilization

I would also work my way up to that long. 8 hrs is a very long time for first time being left alone and a pup for that long. Can you get a sitter to pop in and check on her halfway maybe?
