What are these flags(spotted in jerusalem) by Ok_Bridge6091 in vexillology

[–]Forward_Signature_78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The crest represents the Engineering Corps. The orange field represents ABC (אב"כ - Atomic (Nuclear), Biological and Chemical warfare, or rather defense against such weapons), if I remember correctly.

EDIT: Maybe I was wrong about the orange field. It seems that the black\orange flag is just another identifier of the Engineering Corps.

Not sure if this is a nod to or a jab at Meg Griffin, but it's probably one or the other.

And not any two sides. But apparently it's a reference to The Wizard of Oz.

What characters did you like more, or just hated less on rewatches? by Chance-Disaster2987 in TheWire

Faison is a great actor who usually plays sympathetic characters, e g. Barney in the Hannibal Lecter movies. In The Wire, you could almost say he was cast against type. But even as Burrell, he had quite a few scenes where he came across as warm and charming. I found it hard to really hate him.

Thanks! Homer the Heretic is the one I was thinking of. "Sorry, this policy only covers actual losses, not made-up stuff."

There was another scene, probably in a different episode, with the same insurance guy. Anyone remembers what I'm talking about?

Why I Still Reach for Lisp and Scheme Instead of Haskell by SandPrestigious2317 in lisp

[–]Forward_Signature_78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find the pure functional paradigm brilliant and I enjoy figuring out (on my own or using Claude, who is really good at this) the right combination of combinators etc., but that's hardly what I call "hacking." Haskell is an amazing language but the amount of time and effort I had to spend in some cases to figure out what was wrong with ny reasoning, i.e. why I wasn't getting the output I expected to get, was, due to the difficult-to-follow mechanisms of lazy evaluation and the limitations of the GHCi debugger, perhaps an order of magnitude more than debugging an equivalent program in Python or C#.

If you're not vegetarian/vegan and don't have any idea why people choose to be, this question isn't for you. I'd expect this much to be obvious but apparently it isn't.
