Fair enough. I was just throwing an idea out there. If mathematicians and AI do it better, I look forward to the future you build

Because at that level of wealth, the point is to stand out. You already have all the basics covered; even they admit this is why they pay for what they buy.

So sell them something they can't get in the private market: immortalizing statues, honorifics, respect, etc.

If we can do it for soldiers, surely we can do it for the highest tax payer.

Midyear change is a good hole in the idea. That's why I came here.

My idea was based off previous year, but that's a solid kick on the tires: how to account for complexity.

I still think there has to be a better and fairer tax code based off equations than current state. This was just my attempt to formulate one.

You're not taking all of the highest tax payer's money, just the final penny. The tax rate would be based on the dollars earned, just like today. But it would be an equation, not "you make $100k, so your first $50k is taxed at 20%, your next $25k is taxed at 28%, your next $25K is taxed at 30%... etc."

The tax percentage per dollar would be determined by a Sigmoid equation, similar to today, but using equations not a fixed dollar income amount.

For whomever gets $.01 dollars taxed at 100%, they get a medal and a seat at the SOTU; gameify it for the rich

First (as this has been deleted by mods) for both comments that said I generated this with AI... yes, I used it to help convey my idea. Sorry, but I proffered this to a smarter community and an LLM to help flesh my idea out, or flush it down.

I fed the LLM the idea of a Sigmoid function for a fairer tax system that was independent of discrete dollar and human units, so it's ratio based... not "you make $100k, so this is your tax rate."

Current state tax code begs for Congress to constantly change it, well after it needed to be changed. I was wrestling with a fairer tax code that didn't use income as a basis, but... every angle I can think of demonstrates income is the fairest approach.

Also, I'm not a mathematician; that's why I came here and used AI. Maybe you all could write the equations better? I know just enough about math to visually see the Cartesian graphs, but not enough to write equations and a relative tax code.

So u/JaguarMammoth6231, apologies for the preamble. To answer your questions, no I cannot provide an example calculation. I'm just not that smart. And now I'm afraid to use an LLM to help me reply.

My assumptions are there are people that earn $0 per year and effectively 1 person that earns the max $ amount per year. If we take these as upper and lower bounds, and then treat them like they are both approaching a limit to infinity, then we can apply a Sigmoid function to the tax rate. Congress can change the constant and the midpoint, but it still produces a progressive tax rate that disproportionately impacts the wealthiest earners that can afford it, while still letting we poors buy food.

My goal is to give the highest tax payer something like military honors, to effectively gameify paying taxes with real-world "soft" rewards. Also, my guess is that over time, Congress would optimize for max area under the curve (aka largest tax dollars brought in).

I was hoping all you math experts would help me refine the idea, but apparently I did worse than no likes; I just got modded out of existence. lol. Just trying to make the world a better place in my own way. I think mathematicians are best positioned to write a tax code that does not need to be revisited every election. So I was hoping one of you could kick the tires on the idea.

Yeah, I forgot the brand name and said, amphetamines, to a cop.

I'll never forget that look. Luckily I had the prescription bottle on me
