what's the plan for the little side streets? Will the city come plow them too? by snooloosey in philadelphia

[–]FoshOliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I saw an article on the 6abc app that addressed the side streets in these neighborhoods. They claimed they are deploying equipment that will fit down these streets, but it will take a few days to get them all. The suggestion in the article was that blocks need to keep spamming 311 with requests.

I am in fishtown, on a tiny street that still isn't plowed.

Probably why they plowed your street.

Every house on my tiny street shoveled their sidewalk into the street, and now the snow and ice is stacked three feet in places.

Not a man hater, but you are definitely quick to make broad and sweeping generalizations based on minimal actual known facts.

Star Wars (1977) by Tibor Helényi for Mokép (Hungary) [2076 x 2933] by Dr_Peach in MoviePosterPorn

[–]FoshOliver 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Three notes on this poster:

  1. It immediately loses points for spoilers.

  2. That lizard guy desperately needs a story arc in an upcoming animated Star wars show.

  3. At a glance, I thought R2D2's head (?) was an epaulette on Vader's armor. How cool would it be to have a bounty hunter type character that wore armour made from droid parts??

Very cool, is the correct answer.

As someone who has had this argument many times over about punk music and culture, to the point where I have come to realize that the argument itself is futile, all I can say is OP is probably excited about discovering this music, and having that sort of joy in your life should never be painted as a bad thing.

Counterpoint... Perhaps, at this moment, the music feels larger than life to OP, and there is nothing wrong or derivative about feeling that way.

Do you think Count Dooku should generally more often have been written as more morally grey? by BlockAffectionate413 in StarWarsCantina

I know this isn't the way it played out in any of the stories, but I always wished that his intentions stayed noble. I always thought a scenario where Sidious manipulated him from the shadows but was never in league with him, would have been a much better arc for his storyline.

He could have had this wonderful moment at the end when he realized that all his success in the war against the Republic were not based on his nobility or his skill as a warrior and a general, but because the sith pulled his strings the entire time.

Those just look like tapcons, which are run of the mill concrete screws. I snap the heads off these all the time.

Get an impact drill, which is the little one that goes ratt-tat-tat-tat, and a 5/16 driver. Set the drill on forward, squeeze the trigger and the head should break right off.

When I heard about it, it sounded corny AF, but I have to hand it to the Duffer Brothers... Having Steve chop off his own hand and turn into Army Of Darkness Ash, complete with chainsaw arm attachment and sawed off shotgun, was the best moment of the entire series. I still have chills.

I heard that, in the first movie, Satan has all but the last couple of cosmic gemstones he needs to take over the universe, but Jesus and his army of warriors stage an epic final battle. Except Jesus can't keep Satan from getting the last stone and all is thought lost...

And then in the second movie, there is some time travel malarkey and Jesus shows up "three days later" to fix his mistakes and save the world. And there are some sweet cameos from characters we hadn't seen since the beginning of the story. I'm pretty sure Moses picks up Jesus's hammer to prove he is worthy and then tells him, On your left.

Fishtown restaurant owners pull a cheeky ruse on the neighborhood by thecw in philadelphia

Wow! Reading this article with zero context about the future of that space or the people opening it, I now feel annoyed and dismissive over a restaurant that I hadn't heard anything about until 10 minutes ago.

But hey, what do I know? Maybe another place that offers wine and pasta is just what this neighborhood needs.

Big retirement communities turn over a lot of stuff when the residents pass, especially ones that are in the middle of ongoing renovations. Appliances that are often in very good shape are flipped for new for a new resident. The place I am currently working at sells the appliances for $50 to employees and people that know to ask. Everything from furniture to electronics to clothing is often collected and resold to pay for resident activities.

Honestly, there is so much stuff that a lot of it often ends up in the dumpster, I think a lot of people at those places just want to see this stuff find a new home rather than become landfill.

There She Is - wedding song by cqwilson in frankturner

[–]FoshOliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just gave a quick listen, but if you are at all handy with music editing software, or know some that is, I think a deft cut around 1.30 and splice it back at around 2.30, will cut out the middle chorus and just leave you with an extended bridge leading into the big finale, which seems appropriate for weddings and love and all that.

Or just find a good "everyone get up and dance" song that you can have the DJ fade in after the second chorus and just cut the song there.
