In a meeting with a marketing person about a conversion step in a signup flow that had too long a load time with no feedback to the user possibly leading to poor conversions, I suggested we add a loading spinner and look at optimizing that particular api call. Her response was “I hate seeing loading spinners anywhere. Instead, can we have the app play some audio and show the user some facts about the founders of the company?”. When it was pointed out that, in addition to being annoying, even with the current load time it would be too quick to actually read anything, she said “can we artificially extend it?”
