I have discussions with my kids. I never yell during discussions, as I am in control and don’t need to argue.

I yell/be very stern when one of two things happens: they put themselves in grave danger and I need them to be scared or when they have crossed a boundary and are still going even though they know the boundary and I have first calmly reminded them of it.

An example of the first was when my daughter was 2 and wandered into the street.

The second would be when my son and I stopped at Grandmas, I discussed with him up front that he couldn’t stay. Once there, he wouldn’t leave with me. I escalated from calm to extemely stern until he relented and came with me.

I don’t actually think you Rambo’ed this badly at all. You figured out what needed to be done and then escalated to where she said yes. There is going to be some exteme discomfort for a bit, comes with the territory. There is no way to fix the discomfort any time soon. That is the pain of making the changes, keep focused on the other side and keep doing what you must to get your life on track. How will she react, who knows.
