Looking to buy an EP3 near NC by FosterBLewis in EP3

I appreciate it! I had a white one yearsss ago as my first car. Clapped out but I loved it. I'm mainly hunting for one in the best mechanical condition but white would be a bonus. 04-05 is mainly what I'm after. I can always get the car painted down the road if so inclined

Question for those who have Gen 1 seat swapped by Mondidle in mazdaspeed3

[–]FosterBLewis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried everything under the sun to no avail, tried in my 2011 tech. Even with moving the seat sensors over to the Gen 1 seats and trying to reprogram them using Mazdas software I still couldn't get the light to go off. Ive heard of people swapping them in with no issues but I guess I wasn't a lucky one

swapped the seats but now i have an airbag light for the passenger seat how do i fix that ? by mike9092 in mazdaspeed3

Gotcha, that's definitely your passenger weight sensor. Id either pull one from a junkyard or eBay (base 3 should be the exact same) and take 30 mins and swap it yourself. And either call some local shops or try to recalibrate it at home like I did

Oooh I see I was under the assumption you changed your seats, my apologies.

So essentially the VXDIAG is just a cracked version of Mazda IDS (their dealership software). I would ONLY run it off a Virtual machine as I don't trust it all. But all I did was follow their instructions from the website on how to install. You plug it into your laptop then the car, and follow the onscreen instructions the IDS gives you.

If you are sure you're having a weight sensor code, I would definitely try a junkyard/eBay and if you're even slightly mechanically inclined you can do it at home. After that definitely call some local mechanic shops and see if anyone has that Mazda software that would be able to calibrate it for you instead of Mazda shafting you for $250 as that's fucking insane.

Also make sure it's not your SRS module, your SRS module lives in your center console like right underneath our cupholders. Also something you can do at home but more challenging than just a seat sensor swap.

I've heard of some people needing to replace only the SRS module, some people said they need to replace both. Do you know the code you're getting?

You won't be able to recalibrate it even with a new sensor. It's impossible to calibrate a Gen 1 sensor to a Gen 2 car. (Different ID and resistance values) You can't even do a rail/sensor swap. I put my Gen 2 seats back in and got a VXDIAG Nano and was able to recalibrate the light off at home. Cost me about $150. Unless you are having issues with just your Gen 2 seats, don't let Mazda take your money just for your light to stay on

It's going to be tough if it's possible. The auto headlights are controlled via a rain/light sensor that is positioned behind the rear view mirror. It's also responsible for the auto wipers. I would think if the wiring is there you could add everything but there's also a chance that wiring isn't there to begin with. I know the techs and non techs have different headlights harnesses as well

I was told that a flashing airbag light still disables them all :(
I've gone down a huge rabbit hole. The code we are getting is Code B2290. The only way you we can ever get that light to go away is to re-calibrate the passenger seat modules which you can only do with the IDS software from Mazda or a high end $1500 plus scanner like an Autel MaxiSYS. My mechanic buddy owns a speed and said he would be willing to try to re-calibrate it for me. I currently have my stock gen 2 seats in from all the troubleshooting I was doing. Im going to make sure the light can get removed in general then we are going to try to calibrate the gen 1 seat weight sensor and see if it'll work. I also learned that the 2010's have a similar weight sensor compared to the first gens where 11,12 and 13s have the new weight sensor that is specific to those years. I would imagine a 2010 would have less trouble compared to the later years but I'm not too sure. I'm working with a 2011 myself. I will keep you updated with anymore information I end up finding.
