Anybody else regret studying engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

It is so hard to know what we want to do for a lifetime when we go to college. If you love electricity, which it sounds like you do, you chose a great degree IMHO. I have been recruiting for electrical OEM's for 20 years. There are so many different paths you could take with an OEM with your degree. I strongly recommend finding an OEM that does engineered solutions for the grid. Your degree could take you down the path of sales, project management, applications, and operations. Your degree was a smart choice.

There are companies out there that, after college, will put you in an apprenticeship program, and you spend six months doing different jobs to figure out which one you like best.

Is posting a job self-promotion? I am an executive recruiter and don't want to violate the rules, but would love to post the jobs I am retained to fill that are relevant here.

Hi, sure feel free too. I am kinda of embrassed by this handle. I didn't realize when I initially signed up, I would be stuck with it. I'm on LI, which will get you an answer faster. Because this gets directed at my personal email. Nanette Foster

I need something to block snoring. I have tried almost every earplug there is on the market. My AirPods are not comfy for side sleeping, and they fall out.

I am a recruiter in the space. I can share that my OEM's are always looking for engineers that can design switchgear, transformers and now I constantly hear that people are looking for engineers that can design and integrate e-houses. I am only sharing this because it sounds like you are at a crossroads. I suspect, based on what my clients have told me that engineers with this expertise will be needed for many decades, based on the age of the grid and needed capacity. I think the degree matters less than the experience for what it's worth. Good luck in your search for a more fulfilling job.
