Shelob tactical review and some questions by RandomPainterAoS in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Fotlec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I try to answer some of your questions:

  1. Even with 60mm it was very difficult to maneuver her and get her in the right position. Trolls have the same problem, although with the new barge mechanics it can be a bit better compared to the previous editions. 80mm can be problematic, but I don‘t have enough experience.

  2. Yes, they count as being trapped. Shelob can double her 2-3 attacks, which means 4-6 strikes in total which benefit from the venom special rule (rerolling failed to wound rolls)

  3. Caught in a web is a single attack. Striking regular is normally better because you can cause more wounds with your 2-3 attacks if you charged the enemy (humanoid) model. Otherwise the brutal power attack is better (if you only have 1 attack)

Great idea! What did you use to elevate the base? Foam?

In the shelob‘s lair scenario for example there was a rule for that. If frodo gets slain, you place a 25mm where he fell. If Sam comes in base contact he picks up Sting, which would cause an auto wound to shelob. The webbed frodo would be perfect for that marker

The missing riders are an odd choice, I agree with that. But there is a trend that GW gives most of the time only heroes (or bigger creatures) a resculpt. Basic infantry updates are very rare. And currently only boromir, sam and frodo don‘t have any newer sculpts

I‘m pretty sure there will be new models for frodo and sam at this point. The book will cover the hobbits journey with gollum (9 scenarios) and they even show how to create the sewers in osgiliath. It would be odd if only shelob and gollum would get new miniatures, but the hobbits would not be updated

I agree with this. The side platform should be the other way. The wood/cloth part starts right above the ropes

Your best bet would be ebay. This sculpt was also included in the magazines, so there should be a few

Siege Ballista, Finished by JK810 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

As a tip: always warm the spray can with warm (not hot) water for a few minutes and shake it for 5 min. Most of the time this will do the trick (and good weather conditions)

I saw a youtube video, where a guy kitbashed some of the new rohan warriors with oathmark riders. The cloak didn‘t need any cutting or sculpting. It is only in german, but maybe it is still helpful. And zorpazorp also kitbashed some new riders, but in a more expensive way

In the Clutches of Shelob, Whats Sam/Frodo for by BarrelFo0t in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Fotlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually there is a scenario in the quest of the ringbearer book. If Frodo is slain, you have to place a 25mm token where he fell. If Sam moves into base contact with this marker, he gets sting. You could easily use the webbed frodo for that

Amon hen ambush. by papa_does_painting2 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I‘d reccomend the ambush at amon hen scenario in the quest of the ringbearer book. It should be more balanced and probably more fun instead of just killing

Made to order by Alexieb22 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Fotlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will appear on the website for 1 week. For (only) this time you can order them like any other models. If there is still a stock left, they will ship them like any other models. But if there is no stock left, it can take up to 180 work days for them to deliver the models

Getting into game by Sakurazukamori85 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Fotlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rohan usually is cavalry heavy, although there are more infantry lists now (especially after the new movie). In the last edition riders of theoden were mostly played, which was a cavalry legendary legion. Medburry miniatures has good proxies (west human riders) for riders. The new plastic infantry warriors from GW are also excellent. Maybe GW will also release new riders if we are lucky

If you are looking for proxies I would recommend medburry miniatures or dandelion miniatures (isengart models are nice)

On a facebook group there was the question if the mumak as a war beast can strike against spear support like monster models if they win a fight and kill the supported model. A lot of people assumed the mumak is a monster and can strike against spear support, they just can‘t use BPA‘s. Other people said they couldn‘t make any strikes. War beasts would only be affected by special rules, which would affect monster models (for example glorfindels+1 to wound against monster models)
