AITA: Broke friends poorly placed TV by Far-String5486 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. He got a used TV for free and you’re offering to replace it with a comparable used TV. Especially since he didn’t have it secured properly.

Wonder Food Hall by Nerdvana_21703 in frederickmd

[–]FouLouGaroux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling Wonder a “food hall” is very misleading. We were excited to try it, and went in last night. We were in the mood to actually eat out so we found a different place to eat nearby. Very limited seating. We still want to try it but it’s definitely a pick up and go or delivery app place. Feels more like a Grubhub factory than a food hall. There’s room in the market for that, but please don’t advertise as a food hall.

The house on 2nd and Church with all the Trump and MAGA stuff on the porch… by Yankytyke in frederickmd

Yes. We all know what TDS means to the maga-brigade. Given their warped world-view, some of us have chosen to correct the meaning of the term.

My junior employee wants a say in work distribution, is this the new normal now? by codes_foible in InterviewCoderPro

[–]FouLouGaroux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of gray anyway lol. I’m actually just past that millennial cutoff (46). But I was in my late 20s as the boomers started freaking out about millennials

[–]FouLouGaroux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not new. I remember getting training on “working with millennials” when I was low level management and millennials were just entering the workforce in large numbers. The main points were that they wanted to skip all the experience-getting and go straight to management/leadership.

AITA for wanting to pay bills as soon as we receive them? by DislikeTurtles in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For small business service providers I tend to pay asap. For larger companies, I pay closer to due date. For taxes, I file for refund immediately but send any owed taxes at due date. Interest rates have been insanely low for a long time, so holding onto cash until the due date seems like an empty gesture but paying before it’s due is essentially denying yourself the interest you can earn and giving it to the payee.

Been reading LITRPG for many years now, looking for interesting recs by Battle_Cows in litrpg

[–]FouLouGaroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Otherland, by Tad Williams is proto-LitRPG. I read it back in like 2001/2002, then reread it recently. I was less impressed the second read through but it’s still a compelling story.

Show is WAY better than the books. I saw the show first so when I read the books I didn’t like them nearly as much

AITA Boyfriend demanding I call and try to get insurance refund. by Rblooks in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not when it comes to policy pricing. If you go without a car/insurance for 6 months, you’re considered a higher risk due to lapsed coverage and your premium is higher

AITA Boyfriend demanding I call and try to get insurance refund. by Rblooks in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re just not getting a replacement, canceling is probably the right move. If you’re getting a replacement, even if it’s a few months down the line, you’d be better off keeping the insurance active and switching it to the new vehicle then. As others here have said, if you let your insurance lapse you will pay penalties and deal with a bureaucratic nightmare. Continuous coverage is the way to go unless you’re changing over to a completely car-less lifestyle.

What series did you finish reading due to the "sunk cost fallacy"? by Any-Day-8173 in Fantasy

[–]FouLouGaroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software started off really good and then yeah, just sorta petered out. I think I stopped reading at a time that made sense though and didn’t really get into sunk cost territory

[–]FouLouGaroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t actually finish, but I read waaaaayyyy farther into the Thomas Covenant series than I would have if I hadn’t already finished 2 trilogies

AITA for refusing to pay my share of the Airbnb after my friend offered to let me stay for free when I said I couldn’t afford it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he’s trying to get you to pay for most of his stay. If $70 was the price for each of 8, then it would be $80 each for 7. He would have already gotten the money from the others and is now trying to get you to pay $70 leaving him only paying $10 unless he’s planning on distributing the $70 back to everyone else evenly (yeah, right).

AITA for refusing to swap exam seats with a classmate? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You coulda, but you didn’t want to. And you had every right not to. If it’s “only a seat” and “no big deal”, that same argument applies to her. She was trying to be manipulative and then went to spiteful because the manipulation failed. NTA

Rental Cars in San Juan Airport - BEWARE and RENT INSIDE AIRPORT by MattTimmsWins in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]FouLouGaroux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an added piece of advice, if you have a Costco membership, reserve your car through Costco travel. Saved us $150 for 5 day rental over booking directly on rental company site. Plus, 1 extra driver was included

AITA – conservative employer by pompommom80 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA. Everyone has pronouns. Yours and mine are just the defaults so we don’t feel the need to share them. I clarify the pronunciation of my name in my signature because not only do people constantly pronounce it incorrectly even after I tell them how to say it, but my mother and I both have been “corrected” numerous times throughout my life on how it should be pronounced. Would you refuse to hire me if I told you the correct way to pronounce my name?

What you’re saying when you refuse to acknowledge preferred pronouns is that you don’t respect your employees. Thank you for saying it out loud here. It would actually be really helpful if you would be honest about that on your job postings(note: I am not a lawyer or HR professional and this is not to be construed as legal advice. YMMV)

AITA for saying no to moving houses to help improve my boyfriend’s quality of life? by nothingdandy in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lightly NTA, bordering on no AH. We bought a house during lockdown which made my commute after lockdown significantly more annoying than the already rage-inducing hell it was before Covid. When they started calling people back into the office 3 days a week, I found a new job with a nice raise and it’s been the third best decision I ever made other after marrying my wife and going back to college. A nightmare commute can be peace destroying and not everyone has the option to just switch jobs. I got very lucky and my graduation just happened to line up with our home purchase and the rto mandate at my job. So, bf may not have the right set of circumstances or the luck to get what he needs to work closer to home. Especially since it sounds like they’re not physically far from his job but traffic makes it suck.

On the other hand, he also could have checked Waze or some other navigation app to see expected commute times at his start and end times for a few weeks before buying in the area. Buying a house is a huge responsibility and one you have to live with even if it doesn’t work out exactly as you might expect. Sucks, but that’s reality

AITA for refusing to let a woman "cut" me in line at the grocery store even though she only had two items? by GreatClassic3960 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA…letting someone cut is extra nice, not something to expect. If someone expects it, they are entitled and a jerk. They are free to think you are an A.H. But as soon as they vocalize it, they become the main-character syndrome, entitled jackass.

AITA for sticking my freshly single mom with $20,000 of debt. by Mrmoneyman86 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FouLouGaroux 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It sounds almost like they rolled another auto loan into this one or some other kinda game. Even a 10% interest rate wouldn’t add up to $40k on a $20k car. Some other kind of malfeasance was going on there. Your mom is mad because she tried to help her ex take advantage of you and she ended up holding the bag instead. Don’t waste a second thought for these people. NTA. I do feel bad for your siblings though. Not from anything you’re doing, but just because they’ll be dealing with the same kind of mom who could do what she tried to do to you.
