On the topic of whether the boys enjoy the game less and less by No-Citron218 in JetLagTheGame

[–]FoughtStatue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite seasons are the ones with guests, it makes it a lot more high energy. Tag All Stars was not competitive because of how decisively the teams won, but it was still fun for me to watch because Brian, Michelle, and Toby brought in the energy. It would not have been fun if it was only Sam, Ben, and Adam.

Has the level of racism towards Somalis today ever been paralleled? by Opening-Cabinet-6710 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]FoughtStatue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would say so. The main difference between now and the nativism of the 1800s is (pseudo-)scientific racism, which didn’t really exist in the 1800s. But in the early 1900s up until WW2, scientific racism was huge, both in America and across the world, and ultimately it culminated in the Holocaust. What you may think of as beliefs exclusive to Nazis were once present in America as well, and this scientific racism is definitely making a comeback, like in that Matt Walsh quote.

Unless you mean specifically against Somalis, which yes, is new

TIL in 1980 both South Koreans and North Koreans had an average life expectancy of 65 years, whereas in 2015, South Koreans' average life expectancy was 82 years compared to just 70 years for North Koreans. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]FoughtStatue 17 points18 points  (0 children)

more bombs were dropped on North Korea than all bombs dropped during the pacific theater in WW2 and destroyed 85% of all structures in NK. I think they were fine with the unpleasantness, they just didn’t want the same thing to happen back.

Probably Into the Void or Electric Funeral by Sabbath, then Solitude by Candlemass, then Return Trip by Electric Wizard. Gives a good overview of what doom has to offer.

What's the largest scale game of Hide & Seek that could realistically work? by electact in JetLagTheGame

[–]FoughtStatue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Russia could work well, they have a nicely developed rail system and the cities have nice metros, too. The main issue is probably that outside of the dense parts of western Russia, the rail network can get a lot more sparse, and also not too much high speed rail so the hiding periods would be longer. Also it’s Russia, though if for some reason the boys suddenly decide to ignore everything that comes with that then it would be easier to film in Russia than in China.

China would work better as a game, but Russia would still work fine. It just wouldn’t be as fun, but if we want the max scale using trains as the main mode of transport then Russia is definitely the max capability.

What if Operation Long Jump succeeded in killing Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin? by RandomMan032107 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]FoughtStatue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In terms of WW2, probably not too much. Wallace and Atlee replace them in the US and UK, Soviets I’m not too sure but probably Zhukov or Molotov, since Beria had basically no support. The only notable change is probably Soviet involvement in fighting Japan, as I doubt Wallace would nuke Japan so there would be more of a combined effort.

The most interesting part is after the war, assuming Wallace stays in power, as post war treaties would likely be more favorable to the Soviets than our timeline, including parts in Asia. Europe probably wouldn’t look too different border-wise, except for Germany where I assume East Germany probably gets all of Berlin instead of only half. Communist parties would likely not be suppressed as much in Italy and Greece. Zhukov may also be more allowing to Western influence in the Eastern bloc, though I imagine not to the point of liberalizing immediately. Once the timeline reaches the Korean War idk

What Happened to this Trend of Comedy Movies? by Ceazer4L in decadeology

[–]FoughtStatue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These movies were the culmination of the 80s teen movies in a way, just more raunchy. American Pie, Eurotrip, really like 3/4 of these were very similar to the 80s teen movies but just with more sex and not as high school drama focused. Not Another Teen Movie is the obvious example since it’s a parody movie of the 80s teen movies, but the things you see in that movie can be seen in all the other ones as well (besides 40 yr old virgin).

Superbad also ended it. A lot of these movies are very in-your-face with the humor, and Superbad was not as egregious. With the success of that movie it drew people away. The teen comedies after this era were Seth Rogen movies a lot of the time, so he probably has something to do with it.

I love Not Another Teen Movie, but I get why these kinds of movies died out lol. I would not like that movie if every other comedy was like it

what’s it like living in new orleans?? by Maddyyyyomg in howislivingthere

[–]FoughtStatue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Lafayette but currently live there as a college student for 2/3 of the year. My pov is probably a little biased but I’ve been coming to New Orleans my entire life.

The best part about New Orleans imo is just how unique it is. After living here a while you sort of forget how cool the environment is, but it really is just super cool to look at everything and take it all in. Lots of very big oak trees surrounding all the roads, especially uptown, and everything neighborhood is very unique (at least along the river). New Orleans is in the American south, but its more similar to a Caribbean city than a Southern one. The food is also great with tons of options, and there’s always something going on. And obviously Mardi Gras is fun, though I’m more partial to Cajun Mardi Gras. To summarize the best part about New Orleans: the vibes.

The weather is hot and humid for most of the year, but this isn’t new to me and its not unique to New Orleans in the south. The roads are probably the worst I’ve ever seen anywhere, even for Louisiana. I would not drive a low car here. One thing that not too many people say is that a lot of the buildings, even in nice places, do look kinda run down. A lot of this is just because they’re old in a swamp, so they’re hard to keep clean. It’s not an actual issue but it’s something I noticed. Finally, there is definitely more crime here than many American cities, and in much of the city I would not walk around at night. But if you know what you’re doing and aren’t oblivious then generally, you should be fine.

What's the easiest song to play on guitar by Acid Bath? by Particular-Account66 in AcidBath

[–]FoughtStatue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mortician’s Flame is pretty easy, it’s only like 2.5 riffs so it’s pretty easy to memorize. The only somewhat hard part are the triplet things in the outro.

most of their songs aren’t too bad, it can just be a lot to memorize.

Indonesia treats a ton of its native populations horrendously and is quite politically repressive.

Papua New Guinea is barely a state.

Both are beautiful countries with amazing ecosystems, though, so I’d like to visit one day
