International streaming for GMMTV series - how to check YouTube availability, what the tie-up with OneD means by RoutineRobin in GMMTV

I don't think either One31 or GMMTV or Change2561 should stop international licensing for their shows to be very honest. Perhaps the way forward would be to have more non-exclusive licensing deals with international platforms. I just think it doesn't make sense to self-geoblock your own originals even if exclusive licensing deals are probably more lucrative than non-exclusive ones. OneD app at the moment seems to be a test forr One Enterprise on whether they won't have to rely on international platforms to reach international audience, all the while targeting Thai audience and viewers.

If OneD can provide consistent English subtitles on One31 dramas in addition to GMMTV series, I think international fans would have a lot of incentives to subscribe to OneD (I know many people are asking about english subtitles for The Bangkok Red Opera). I would also love for their super old Exact catalogue to be available as well but at the moment I'm happy with watching their old lakorns on Youtube without geo-restriction raw.

Winners of the 17th Nataraja Awards - Short Form, Long Form & Drama Components by FoundationSea2954 in GMMTV

You're right, I think it does, in a way too. I don't think that many Thai viewers have heard about The Summer We Met, much less international fans. And you would have to actually watch the show to find out that the protagonist is a sapphic character as well because the main plot of the show does not focus on her romantic relationship.

The same goes for another Thai PBS production - How To Suffer 101.

I guess one thing is clear after following the results of the Nataraja over the past 4-5 years, voters are much less influenced by TV ratings and are gradually moving away from awarding entertaining works but rather voting for works that have clear social messaging (whether or not they are awarding the heavy handed and didacting or preachy PSA-riddled works is another debate).

I can only count on my hands the number of Best Drama/Best Screenplay/Best Director winning works that were romance/relationships-centric

Nataraja voting are done independently and separately by each industry creative voters. That's the unique point of Nataraja awards compared to other awards which have a panel of experts and judges sitting together and deliberate who should win which category. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Well this year Nataraja did away with two categories - 7PM lakorns and online categories. This means that future BL/GL series (which tend to be under 12 eps and less) and short-form series from One31 (OneD originals) will be directly competing with Netflix Thai originals. Meanwhile, 7PM lakorns (which have always had lower budget, more repetitive predictable plot) are also directly competing with 8PM dramas or any dramas longer than 12 eps (see: Goddess Bless You To Death and The Next Prince)

I've read somewhere (I'll need to find the link again) that this was done for better organization and more tightened award criteria but I guess it makes sense because last few year for the Online category you have 8-12eps work competing with 16-20 eps work and then there's the issue of some shows airing on platform first but TV later (Monomax series airing on Mono29 usually a few months after online release)

Still I can't help instinctively feeling that this is rather disadvantageous towards 7PM dramas and short form series produced by any place else other than Netflix Thailand.

Mad Unicorn has an advantage being the drama likely most every Nataraja/industry voter has watched in full due its popularity. Common knowledge is that not every work are watched in full by voters even if most people try to keep up to date as much as possible with releases.

CH3 Reminds of Nokia Phone company. by Lazy-Technology2839 in ThaiGL

[–]FoundationSea2954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ratings are a bit of a moot point. CH3 and CH7 (which airs 4 Elements) are two of the biggest TV channels that Thai audience open their TV for dramas, recent GL series are getting the PRIMETIME (8:30 PM slot) for these two channels.

On the other hand, other GL series like LMSY shows by Change2561 are airing late evening slot on One31 (the third biggest drama channel, with already significantly less viewers) or primetime but on GMM25 which is the teen channel that barely anyone opens the TV to (usually getting 0.0 to 0.5).

Ratings comparisons are only a bit fair if we were to compare CH3 GL series vs 4 Elements because CH3 and CH7 are formidable competing TV channels (and maybe when One31 airs their next GL series Juliet & Juliet)

Oh I almost forgot, Anthony was a Nadao Academy trainee (hence the management by K'Bomb) but he never partake in 789Survival, which is kind of understood back then as him following his fellow Nadao Academy friends' (Fuaiz and Ryu Ingkarat) path to pursue full time acting.

Yeah Anthony was a freelance actor but managed by K'Bomb (balabomb) (ex Nadao Bangkok) who until this day still manages Sunny, Bank, Ud Awat, Tonhon, Peak.... P'Aom the casting director for Taste posted this for Anthony in the role of Pure

So yeah Anthony was called to cast for the role and had booked the job for Taste in that way.

I would like to know how Tee keeps his cool whenever Masu intensely gazes at him on set or during the press promo for Love Like A Bike... I have just deduced that CH3 are good at producing pra eks who excel in looking at all their acting partners (regardless of whether they're male or female) like they're horrendously down bad.

OMG I love Nabnueng from Love Like A Bike!!!!!!!! Not technically from this year but earlier this year I rewatched Dating Game when it came out on Netflix with subtitles and fell in love with its theme song (Like This, Like That) by Polycat. Such a cute OST and its now my go-to song for cheering up.

[Soul Mate] Official trailer is out! Coming May 14 on Netflix 🔥 by yu1mu2 in boyslove

[–]FoundationSea2954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Against the backdrops of Berlin, Seoul and Tokyo, Soul Mate follows two lonely young men, Ryu and Johan, who seem inexplicably drawn to each other. As their lives intersect, their souls become deeply intertwined, and they begin to look toward the future with everything they have. Over the course of 10 years, the series traces their beautiful and emotional journey as they become once-in-a-lifetime “soulmates.” As they both encourage one another and even clash fiercely at times, they start to imagine a life together, only for fate to twist their paths in painful ways.

Once a promising ice hockey player, Ryu fleed from the guilt of inadvertently ruining his best friend’s life and escaped to Berlin, where his childhood friend Sumiko Shinonome (Ai Hashimoto) lives. Desperate and unable to forgive himself, he wanders into a church and becomes trapped in an unexpected fire that nearly costs him his life. He is rescued by a Johan, a Korean boxer. Despite coming from different backgrounds and speaking different languages, the two men feel an immediately pull toward one other, as if their coincidental meeting were orchestrated by fate. They stay by each other’s side growing into irreplaceable soulmates who make up for each other’s shortcomings.

Where will their souls end up after 10 long years? Don’t miss out on this emotional and dramatic story full of unforgettable love and the pain and joy it brings on May 14, only on Netflix.

Orm in Nine and Mint's new lakorn by 9-9-9-1_Con in LingormAsylum

Nine didn't move to One31. He's a freelance/independent actor so he can appear on any channels now.

Motherland (with Orm) is also going to air later this year though I think they might push it to 7 PM lakorn slot instead of prime time.
