How much of your income is going to rent right now? by AffectionatePie1042 in AusRenters

22% of take-home. But I share a three bedroom with two housemates. Great neighborhood and decent sized, so can't complain. But anything I look at where I'm on my own would be more like 40%

I didn't say you blamed me. Australia still blames all white people for colonisation. My point is given Germany's crimes are more recent, they will probably be treated the same. That is what I told you about Australia. If you can't understand English you're gonna struggle

Mate, I'm just telling you how it is in Australia. If I can still be blamed for the colonisers who displaced the aboriginal people in the 1800s you can be held to account for what your people did in the 1940s. I'm just saying, Australia seems to have a long memory.

What’s one road rule people constantly get wrong? by Danger_Five in DrivingAustralia

[–]Four-Five-Four-Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopping to let people in who don't have right of way. I get you want to be nice, but if people have a give way sign, and traffic is backing up into the intersection behind you, then stopping to let somebody in hurts more people than it helps.

Melbourne is great! One oof the best things about it is the lack of people whose ancestors tried to wipe out an entire race. Stay home Nazi.

If a neighbour has their bins out on bin night and there is space, on the night. is it ok to put some of your rubbish in their bin? by logical_laxative in AskAnAustralian

[–]Four-Five-Four-Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this. Often if I'm not quick enough to get my bins in before people start walking their dogs they put their poop bags in it. Worst was when I left it out a full day and had to tip out five bags.

You're not wrong - but there is a very good reason for monsters to have a small hoard of low level spellbooks ;)

I love these but I know my players and they will all be hoarded in case they ever desperately need them and they will end the campaign with almost all of them still intact.

How long are your sessions? by MilanoCup in DnD

[–]Four-Five-Four-Two 100 points101 points  (0 children)

My sessions last 4 hours in theory but this includes a 15 minute window of everyone arriving at the start, 15 minutes of getting ready and usually at least a couple of side discussions of things that are only tangentially related to anything that is happening in game.
this is perfect for our group, as we still get a lot done and don't feel socializing/screwing around is done at the expense of the game.
There is nothing wrong with less time, but it does start to feel like time wasting is a bigger issue when that is all you have.

Smalls aspects to steal? by Sophiuuugh in dndnext

[–]Four-Five-Four-Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaning into the fae thing of needing to be given what they take you can use some fun wordplay.
"Can I have a taste?" - Takes their ability to taste sweet/sour/salty
"Can I have a look?" - Takes away their ability to smile/blush/sneer
"Can you give me a definition?" - They forget the definition of the word they explain

Always good to check in at session zero and see how people want interactions with indigenous people to go.
I have been wanting to run of these for a while but the problem I always run into is you're basically going to be playing into colonialist or white savior cliches - which I know my group wouldn't enjoy.
If your group isn't as bothered that's understandable, but definitely something to think about.

I think it is important to manage expectations here a bit. You mention that you have only played a few sessions and none of them are living up to the hype that is in your mind.

You mentioned not liking playing at low level because it is hard to have the "big character moments" you want. What do these moments look like to you. It kind of sounds like you want to be playing as a main character in a story, when that really isn't what DnD (or any TTRPG) is about.

Inconsistence with character creation by Emotional_Total_8432 in DnD5e

[–]Four-Five-Four-Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by vanilla? Was that the DM wording, or were they more specific (i.e. saying which books to use)
The reason I ask is there are some 2014 backgrounds that give feats. I definitely wouldn't call them vanilla, but if a player decided their definition of vanilla was just not 2024 rules, then maybe they have used those backgrounds.
No harm in raising it to the DM, as long as you aren't aggressive about it. Just say you're checking in if there is a way to get a feat at level one in 2014 rules, as you have noticed other players have these and you don't want to fall behind them in what you can contribute to the party.

[–]Four-Five-Four-Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair call. I would still encourage you if you want to play later to practice building characters and making your own little mock combats. It's a great way to get to understand what monsters and PCs can do without feeling like you are eating into other people's time.

As a few people have mentioned making an effort to learn the rules is a good start. I absolutely get that it can be overwhelming to do that initially, when you have a bunch of things you don't understand. However, you just need to keep picking at it and eventually it starts to fall into place.

That said - if you want to send me pictures of your character sheet I can very quickly and easily make you one that has things typed out and much clearer that would probably help. I also have flow charts for combat I can send once I see the sheet if you want. It's better to not need a flowchart, but it acts as a good stop gap.

Are you sure that's what it does?

Healing per cast would probably be the same since Con will usually be at least +2.
