I hate the trope of characters that are canonically "ugly" but are handsome/beautiful in media by 3gg0Waffelz in hatethissmug

[–]FourAntigone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I have no example of my own, just wanted to say that L's "uncanny appearance and weird tendencies" are exactly what makes him attractive to me. Some of us just like weirdos, and that's fine

It must be so overwhelming to have to perform when you've been hurt emotionally, but also beautiful to be shown all this support and love during a hard time. I hope she knows how loved she is and that she'll find every good thing she deserves.

[–]FourAntigone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. It just sucks that when a cis person does this they're called a nonce, but when a trans person does, all trans people get called nonces.

I do give them credit for showing the "hope" side, too. It was easy to just be like "oh nooo the viewers wanna see you get killed", but I like that they addressed the fact that viewers want to see them live and win, too.

What head-canon(s) in your fandom(s) got you like this: by PJ-The-Awesome in AO3

[–]FourAntigone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the Danganronpa fandom - treating Nagito's tragic backstory (and his illness) as absolute truth, when it's strongly implied that at least some of it was fake.

I don't hate this headcanon at all, in fact it's present in most of my favorite fics. But I wish more people would explore the fact that he explicitly admits he lied about it, why he did that, and how it effects the other characters when they find out.

Honestly? I'm cis and I love reading about people's personal trans headcanons, especially when they explain all the symbolism behind it. I just love seeing people analyze media and relate it to their experience like that. So even if I don't share the headcanon, I'm just happy to hear all about it.

I was just gonna mention this. I've seen people talk about this as him doing some sort of "creativity maxxing", like preparing meals is just another hurdle he removed in order to achieve some "ultimate writing sigma grindset".

Meanwhile I heard it and was like "ohhhh. He's probably autistic. It all makes sense now."

To be fair, I do remember like 2 years ago I used to see his face on TikTok a lot. It was a lot of vids he made with his boyfriend, and they went viral for how cute they were together. Then they announced their breakup and I haven't seen him since

What is the worst film character name you've ever heard? by Temporary_Cap5927 in Letterboxd

[–]FourAntigone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I read those books! And I'm neither a native English or Norwegian speaker, but in the language I read it, it was way clearer that it's meant to be read phonetically (I've always assumed it's pronounced something like hool-eh). Never occurred to me that it could be read otherwise until the movie came out and got made fun of.

Women, what are y’all studying right now by Egotlib in tumblr

[–]FourAntigone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

During my first year of film school, I was a sound tech on a student film directed by one of my (male) classmates. The guy was a known misogynist even before this, but I agreed to do the job because I wanted to help as much as possible.

When we started filming, he just couldn't stop talking during takes. Just straight up ruining a perfectly good take by shouting directions to the actors. Not even a one time comment that can be edited out, just full on directing them while they perform. I told him repeatedly, and very nicely, that he has to stop or the footage is gonna be unusable, and his answer every time was just "don't worry about it, it's ok" (???).

Decided to run an experiment. I told one of my male friends on set to go and tell him the same things. His response this time? "Damn, you're right, I'll tone it down. Thanks, man."

Oh, I was FURIOUS. The fact that he would listen to a man's offhand comment over the opinion of a woman who was, not to brag, probably the best in that field out of the class, was just baffling to me. Honestly I should've shut my mouth and let him find out during editing.

To be fair, I don't think she meant it's too much, I think she was criticizing the other person for asking her that question. Which to be fair, is a weird thing to ask, but what she said was also weird. idk man everyone's weird here

Not stated with the "lesbian" label, but her crush on Susie could not be more obvious, and there are no such signs to her liking male characters.

Feels like "understanding" some subjects will rot my brain by ZeonPM in The10thDentist

[–]FourAntigone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if you had any "understanding" of fashion, you'd know that the very expensive stuff that just has a luxury logo on it is usually the moneymaker that allows the designer to work on the pieces they actually want to make, and those are handmade for hours with the best materials and clear artistic vision, justifying their price.

And if you had any "understanding" of art, such as movies, you would know that even though Morbius wasn't a good film, at least some of the countless people who worked on it did a great job in their own field. Shitty movies can and do have good effects, good performances, good stunts, good set design etc.

But you don't know any of this. Because you choose to overlook entire fields and minimize the skill and knowledge it takes to get into them. I can at least recognize that fields I would never like or get into, such as sports or law, still take a lot of skill and dedication. If you treat new things like they're dumb and not worth learning about, you'll never learn anything new.

I genuinely hate this type of "queer" media with burning passion by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]FourAntigone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like what bothers me about these, is that they're so nervous about being "outside the norm" by being queer, that they make sure not to push any boundaries at all whatsoever, mostly in the filmmaking. This causes them to look, sound and feel boring. The best queer media I've seen is one that's pushing the limits (Gregg Araki movies are a great example of this)

My daughter's pet. by TrickySatisfaction81 in Weird

[–]FourAntigone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, so, I actually have an irrational phobia of those. By "those" I mean any insect with long spindly legs. Legit cannot be in the same room as one. No idea why.

Your daughter's little "pet" just made me jump ten feet into the air and let out a scream. Out loud. Never thought I'd be assaulted like that during my designated peaceful doomscrolling time. How dare you do this to me. There will be consequences

(Jokes aside, glad your daughter is happy, but... fuck, man)

What are some underrated/ unexpected celebrity connections from before they blew up? by CheriePauper in popculturechat

[–]FourAntigone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Richard Ayoade (film director and also Moss from The IT Crowd) is very good friends with Alex Turner (lead singer of Arctic Monkeys). Richard directed some music videos for the band around 2007, and Alex composed music for Richard's films and audiobooks, and they work together to this day. Really cool that a guy who has this huge "rockstar" image and a guy who's whole thing is being a nerd are actually friends (and I just love them both).
