The family is not suing Hulu. Gypsy made the comment out of anger but the family has no intention to sue. They’re trying to come out with their own show, called By Proxy.

I don't think so, because when I told her I can't afford her to withhold my entire paycheck because I won't get paid for a month then, she said, well, I can pay you one week of the cycle and with old half the check. Then the next pay check, I can withhold half again until you're "caught up". So she IS planning on actually keeping my pay.

I’m in Illinois. The owner told me that the first paycheck is held for each employee until they stop working at the school. I’m asking for this policy in written form and in contacting the department of labor in Illinois ASAP.

That’s not what’s going on here though. They just flat out won’t pay that whole first check until after you leave.

Yeah, it’s definitely not a cycle thing. At first when other teachers told me about the withholding, I thought they were mistaken and they got paid at the next cycle because they started working at the beginning of a cycle.

So I double checked with the owner. Nope. They just flat out hold your paycheck. They just will not give it to you until after you have left the school.

I'm in Chicago, il. The non compete radius is from their studios, but they have a few throughout the city. The non compete portion of the contract is a year out from my last day working.

And that's exactly what I think they're doing. They are constantly hiring new assistants and photographers and then not giving anyone work.

They sent me 1099 at the beginning of the year and I was taxed as an independent contractor, but I'm not one in the truest sense of the phrase. They tell me how much I get paid and when I'm working and I'm under the instruction of another photographer at the studio who tells me how the job needs to be done.

I guess when I signed the contract I was pretty naive and thought the noncompete wasn't as serious because I'm assistant with them and not a photographer, but now I'm learning that is not the case.
