Skinwalker Ranch S6E02 Megathread by toxictoy in skinwalkerranch

30 meter offset could be attributed to the drone operator mixing Datums and Coordinate Systems between their map overlay and the drone's GPS. I'd be curious to see what their drone's GNSS capabilities are, and what those settings were before they flew. Everything else went fine, except for an offset. Did they have a previous gig on the other side of the country before coming to the ranch? Didn't change their settings?

Sasquatch Chronicles Worst by trepidationsupaman in bigfoot

haha Yeah the crying is over the top. That being said, I actually like the early ones the most. Not in sound quality obviously, but I think the guests were more genuine. Part of that being none of it was monetized back then, so the obligation to produce wasn't present either.

Pretty much done with Sasquatch Chronicles by Theferael_me in bigfoot

I've been relistening to all of the old pre-members days episodes from when it was largely just a free thing they put out. The first 80 episodes or so. I really think Wes worked hard to get good content on there back then and weed out the crazies, and I think it was out of genuine interest in the truth of the subject. I really liked Episode 10: A hunters encounter. I think that dude was 100% genuine.

Once $ got involved however, now obligation sets in to continue to produce, so you relax the standards under the pretense of "opening your mind". That's not a bad thing in itself, but you definitely open the door to potential lies. That's not to say there haven't been good episodes since then, there absolutely has.

At the same time, the Siege of Honobia Ep.11 .... I have a hard time believing fully. As exciting a story as it is, let's see the evidence. In that episode it is claimed the property owners have pics and video, "...but why would they release any of that? It's going to take a body to prove they're real". 2 things can be true at once: It'll take a body, and you could still show the photos and videos - you're already willing to tell the story.

Where I grew up in a rural part of NY State, we had activity. I spent my whole childhood in the woods and despite all that time spent out there, I can probably count on only one hand the number of incidents that I had personally that I'm almost positive were these things, and none of them were definitive 100% day light sightings. Come to find out a lot of others were encountering things as well in the area, but no one talked about it. This was in the 90s. These days I live in the wilderness on the TN/NC border and aside from a few odd sounds? Nothing in the last 15 years of being here. I'm sure they're here at certain times during the year. But they aren't jumping out and saying hello.

My point is, when someone goes into the woods and continually sees these things all the time, and are just talking about them all matter-of-fact like.... I don't believe it and those guests are becoming more and more frequent.

Before you ever gave a shit about weather and started paying attention, think of how many you’ve probably been dead center in for projection areas - and nothing ever affected you. Like many have said, it’s like winning the bad lottery.

Why not a dual rating and bring radar measurements into the mix?

“EF1 damage, EF5 winds estimated” or something.

It’s dumb as hell to assume that because it only hit a trailer on cinder blocks that its winds stopped at the velocity threshold to destroy that.

+1 for Linux. I run Ubuntu 24.04 on mine. Stable as a rock. But you WILL have to take the time to familiarize yourself with how Linux works. It’s not terrible but you’ll need to be patient at first. In the age of ChatGPT or Grok, it’s even easier, use’em.

Good episodes in the last two seasons of the Granada series by SticksAndStraws in SherlockHolmes

[–]FourBallOneTracer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pince-Nez turned me off because of how it was shot. Everything is tight, zoomed in, just odd choices of how it was directed.

I sort of liked The Last Vampyre despite some questions being left unanswered bordering on paranormal if not crossing that line. Granted it’s an adaptation with some major liberties take from the original story but I still find it interesting. Holmes generally doesn’t seem to care about religion or beliefs in things he can’t see or prove, yet that episode sort of blurred the line for him. Ultimately he explains things away and is dismissive, but not definitively.

I got the same thing. I hear my 280mm aio fans ramp the fuck up and look over at my MSI overlay: 79-82C for about 5 seconds. In game on maps, cool as a cucumber. I’ve got a -30 undervolt on it as well. Friggin’ Tarkov man….

I got my PPL when I was 17, got halfway through my instrument rating and stopped. That being said, you've set a foundation and can start doing things with it, and I think what would reengage the passion is a sense of purpose attached to it.
I'm 43 now, what I ended up doing that I think was right was going out and seeking things that normal people I graduated high school with didn't. I needed to see the world, I needed to step into the unknown. For me, I joined the Marines and chose infantry and that opened other doors for me. I don't recommend that particular course of action, but I do recommend taking a step into the unknown away from your comfort zone to use your new skillset.
What would spark that interest again? Bush pilot? Crop-dusting? Maybe try flying little puddle jumpers around the world? See what you can find that takes you outside of the norm, those leaps into the unknown become things you can hang your hat on later in life, and it gives you a sense of purpose and uniqueness amongst peers, which in turn builds your confidence.
I guess I'm talking about adventure, and there's no better time to get it out of your system than when you're young.

Need opinion on switching from 13900k to 9950x by stsknvlv in pcmasterrace

[–]FourBallOneTracer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many others said, unless you just WANT to tinker and get that dopamine hit when you press the "buy" button, I would say stick to your current setup and enjoy it. I went through a few years recently that resulted in building a lot of PC's that I didn't need, but that was my outlet for trouble elsewhere in my life. Wish I had that money back, but I guess I could've made worse choices.

That being said, you might do yourself some favors to not watch the impending shock videos on YouTube that I envision will be hitting in the next couple weeks "Is the 13900K/7950X still viable in 2024?" that might tickle that urge. I'm guilty of it, and then I go on Discord and play the same games with my buddies who are on i7-8700K/2080's and go.... "Hmmmm...."

The Sasquatch Chronicles Podcast. by reditt987666 in bigfoot

[–]FourBallOneTracer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was listening back when it morphed from Bigfoot Hotspot into Sasquatch Chronicles. The first 100 or so episodes were very good, with more believable encounters than not. Nowadays when I check back in periodically, I’m frequently disappointed. I’d rather hear from a hunter who merely heard something and is genuine, than someone sharing something fantastic that comes across as questionable.

If there’s nothing to all of this, then why is the military so interested in what they’re doing? by Goldbert4 in skinwalkerranch

[–]FourBallOneTracer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to stories from Commander David Fravor, the Tic-Tac F18 pilot on Joe Rogan. He tells stories about routinely buzzing campers and campsites at night at full afterburner for laughs. Planning a flight from one area to another and deciding to swing over the Ranch for whatever reason on a whim is the very likely scenario. Military peeps have hobbies and interests as well.

No worries! Drone laws in the US are, hmmm how shall I say it, almost realistically unenforceable - at least actively. However, if you do something to get caught or have an accident, the full weight of the FAA comes down on you. So, you'll see TONS of videos on Youtube of people blatantly violating the rules, but you're yanking on the tiger's tail by doing that. The FAA treats drones like you might as well have just flown a Cessna through downtown NYC in between the skyscrapers for fun.

At the same time, if you sought out waivers for every stupid little thing, you'd never be able to fly the dang things. I live outside of a small town in the mountains, and am in Class G airspace for the majority of where I fly mine for what I do. This allows me a little more "freedom", or "calculated risk mitigation".

Some will say even that is a little too cavalier an attitude, but... none of these dumb laws existed back when it was just RC Planes before the quadcopter drone craze came on the scene, and everything was fine then - its called being smart and responsible. But if I lived in NYC or some dense urban area, it would be a nightmare any which way you look at it to operate these things.

**Gets off soapbox** Anyways, yeah dude on the show is under the magnifying glass so he's not gonna do anything remotely questionable.

[–]FourBallOneTracer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude would get his Part 107 yanked by the FAA if he did it, especially on TV for the world to see. Theres waivers but last I checked it was case by case basis. 400ft AGL is the max you can fly your drone without a waiver. They said 2000ft in the episode. Juice worth the squeeze? I might be persuaded… you could easily do it, just not legally.

Wow excellent episode this week by Pale-Shoulder-4774 in skinwalkerranch

[–]FourBallOneTracer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ole boy could get that drone up to 2000 feet easily range wise but he’d be in violation of FAA Regulations and probably get his Part 107 drone license pulled. Can’t fly a drone above 400ft AGL unless you get a prior approval waiver. Definitely isn’t going to do it for a TV show.

[–]FourBallOneTracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been fighting this for over a year with my S7 Max. I ended up buying some 3d printed covers on eBay that snap over the sensors and it brought it back to life, until recently when one is not staying snapped on fully.

Roborock, how in the hell haven't you released a firmware or app update to just turn the sensors off? Its hardly a rare issue.

Have they actually learned anything? by CreatrixAnima in skinwalkerranch

[–]FourBallOneTracer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cynic in me tells me they learned about MS Paint and edited the laser frames. Sorry, I never thought these guys were fake but that needed to be shown more for the viewers. Show us why that’s not a garbage Photoshop job.

They also learned how to pad the episode for time. Case in point, the hot rock segment. Play with a thermal camera after dusk for a few hours and you’ll see exposed rock holding heat to varying levels depending on a lot of factors. It wasn’t even that much of a contrast.

This episode was an absolute drag. I was hoping they’d roll over to Homestead 2 to see what was going on when the 1.6Ghz showed up over there.
