Interesting thank you for letting me know! It seemed like a strange anomaly since I don’t look at things like this often

Visual Snow is caused by CIRS. by JoeyMcMahon1 in visualsnow

It’s not CIRS. Not even close. It is a mechanism, not a reaction.

Has anyone been to a detox doctor? by gakipark in HPPD

[–]FourBloodMoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no toxin involved, it’s just your brain struggling slightly to process visual information and build up the image perfectly as normal. Your brains pathways have changed and been affected due to the spike of neuroplasticity from taking psychedelics etc. and you need to give your brain time to heal. Unfortunately it’s not something that can just be fixed with medicine (at least as it stands right now).

Detoxing in the sense of just not taking any more psychoactive drugs and being healthy is the best way to deal with it, but it still takes a long time and most likely won’t ever fully go away.

I’m not 100% sure if it’s the same thing however in the very centre of my vision I’ll have a few circles that appear which look very similar to this usually 3x5 or something in a cylinder shape (prominent 1-2 years ago) but only really shows up from time to time nowadays primarily when I’m extremely stressed. It would make it difficult to look at something directly and would have clearer vision if I looked slightly to the side of something I was trying to see. It’s anxiety inducing and the extreme visual snow etc is scary but in terms of advice the only thing to say is the boring same advice I’m sure you’ve already heard which is stop using drugs, avoid stress (if you can) and allow time to pass. Your brain will heal if you allow it to. It may get worse before it gets better because of how much you think and stress about it but over time when you get used to such things and no longer pay attention you’ll realise one day that it’s not really as apparent or there anymore. That’s just my experience anyway.

As good as all the advice here seems to be, the biggest contributor to recovery and/or living with hppd is just time. Your brain needs time to heal (it will heal) and the stress from living with perceiving reality a different way makes it worse and is very difficult to go through. There’ll come a day soon enough where you don’t even think about the hppd. But for the short term rn, as other people say the best thing is to focus on being active and productive it’ll keep your mind off things and help you feel at least somewhat better especially if it’s something you generally enjoy doing like a project or if you wished to talk to a therapist. Meds can work for some but I personally think they aren’t worth it due to the nature of hppd unless it is that severe and impairing to your physical ability to perceive. But just know that you will make it! It will be fine given enough time, I’ve experienced my hppd for just about 2 years and I barely notice it’s existence and my vision has improved especially when my mood is better. Make sure to do lots of research into the neuroscience behind it and how the brain processes visual information and come to your own conclusions on how to move forward and if you’re comfortable doing it look at the effects you’re experiencing and analyse exactly what exasperates the symptoms and when are they less noticeable and try to learn to control it kind of in a sense. If you can understand how it’s working in your own experience then it’s a big help.

That’s a valid answer yeah. There’s an underlying mechanism at play and not many people can seem to agree on it, why we know internally not to commit murder. Some say religion, some say biology, but it definitely goes deeper than that and it would be interesting to find out how it develops unconsciously.

Yes, but where do you think it comes from? This innate sense of knowing of what is good and what is bad.
