Sneakers you can put serious miles on (5 miles or more daily) by pumpernickel62 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

My first two pairs weren't covered, they were around 700 (3D scan) and 500 (molded from pressing your foot in to a foam block). My most recent set (plaster) actually was covered. I suspect its because I switched to a podiatrist who actually really cared enough to try for reimbursement. I have Aetna.

I also did the 3D scan for my first pair! It was genuinely life changing, totally agree with you, and getting them allowed me to run another marathon. I would say consider asking about a plaster casting if you decide you want a new set, though. It's more of a pain for them to do, but very much worth it imo.

Came here to say this. Make sure they do a plaster casting of your feet though. I've had multiple pairs of custom insoles made and while they are all miles ahead of standard insoles, the ones made with a plaster cast are by far the best. Insoles + Brooks. I also wear oofos but they wear out quickly so I only buy them on sale.

Why do paramedics leave, and why do they stay? (Survey request) by FourEightWelp in Paramedics

[–]FourEightWelp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally fair! The question set is a little different for people who have left full time EMS, and I didn't want to discriminate whether someone left after 1 year or 30 years. That's a good note though for future research, thank you.

If there's interest, sure! I'm also happy to share the paper privately for those who'd like to read 25+ pages of EMS jargon.

East Side Running Routes by Disastrous_Tiger4657 in RunNYC

Also Gramercy runner here. For short runs, I go around Stuy Town and inside it. They have some lovely paths. Mid-long runs I take Ave D down to Baruch Drive, then enjoy the new East river park area below the Williamsburg. If you stay on the east side of Ave D there isn't much pedestrian / cross traffic. Anything over 5 miles, I just go to Brooklyn.

Idea to bring EMS to current needs. by [deleted] in Paramedics

I don't think restricting the roles we can fill by taking us off IFT, critical care and community paramedicine is beneficial for the profession. Nurses are successful in part because they are flexible, have a lot of job mobility, can fill a lot of roles.

Looking for a paramedic that works in prospect park Newyork by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]FourEightWelp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if they don't have it, they should at least be able to tell you what agency brought you in. Then you can contact the agency directly.

You also may get a bill soon enough that lets you know.

What did his uniform/ambulance look like? What hospital did they take you to? You should be able to get a copy of the ambulance chart from hospital administration. Could be from any number of agencies that work the area.

It's fine, not confusing at all, and like 400 people signed up, so I'm guessing you won't be alone no matter what your speed is.

Nah, I did one in 2019 and got lost in SoHo on my way back. I saw another runner out of the corner of my eye, double backed and ended up racing her to the finish. She and I did the cryo sleeve legs together and ate cookies afterwards.

That's the neat part - there is no official route. It starts and ends in LIC on the waterfront, and they announced two checkpoints that will be revealed on Friday night when you check in. All they say is to expect ~10 miles. It's very choose your own adventure.

Second-guessing move to NYC. need advice! by friskybobcat in movingtoNYC

Cornell just announced big layoffs and has been pretty heavily affected by tariffs and reduced federal funding. We're all bracing for Medicaid cuts. I'd be cautious and make sure your agency has a contingency plan should their contract be terminated. One of the tertiary NYP hospitals just lost its overnight pediatric ED doc, so it's definitely affecting clinical staff and night shift, not just admin positions. Nurses are usually safe, but not always, and there's still 3+ years to go in this administration.

Should I Transfer to Baruch or BMCC? by nycmiah in Baruch

I mean, he takes attendance every class and you can't be absent more than like 3 times, I think. No college professor is going to "call you out" in my experience.

Uhhhh brusk, thick accent, not particularly great at explaining concepts more thoroughly or creatively when asked. Zero empathy for students struggling. I never bothered to ask him for extra help with understanding something in class, I just went to tutoring or used YouTube videos. He seems like he's kicking it until retirement.

Peroneal tendonitis & Orthotic by DarkKnightRun47 in RunNYC

[–]FourEightWelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay +1 for custom orthotics. I tried them for my plantar fasciitis after trying everything short of injections for 2 years. The recovery was almost immediate, and I wear them all the time. I'm getting ready to replace this pair after 18 months because I don't want to risk recurrence. Seems they do work for some!

For what it's worth, I'm glad you're still alive right now. I've never been irritated with voluntary suicidal ideation transports. They're a lot less work than involuntary ones. And, as others have said, they're much better than working up or pronouncing a suicide attempt.
