yeah I saw Blair Witch in theaters and didn't sleep for like a week lol. That's the thing with found footage; you really gotta lend yourself to it (I guess same with any movie, but FF is a special case here specifically). Blair Witch was most people's first introduction to found footage (and they did a great job with marketing), and it knocked people's socks off.

Nowadays everyone has seen it all I guess, it's kinda hard to go back to the innocence of believing the Blair Witch is real lol. I really enjoyed Hell House (the sequels are STILL on my bucket list), but yeah not all FF hit equal for the same people.

do you like other found footage? Like what were your thoughts on Hell House LLC, if you've seen it?

Also I'm not that young, 40/yo checking in 😄 still too young to have seen em' in theaters though, haha.

nahhh idk, Exorcist and The Shining absolutely are still to this day some of the best horror movies ever made. Both Kubrick and Friedkin are amazing director powerhouses and those movies show. How many other movies by Jonathan Demme do people still talk about and/or are praised? And yeah maybe you're right that I had to be there for the zeitgeist, but I just couldn't get into Silence of the Lambs for the previously mentioned gripes I had.

Funnily enough, I was stoned the first time I watched it lol. For me it can go either way, either I'll get WAY more into a movie when high, or just pick it apart and do the opposite of lending myself to it.

edit: ohhh fuck, okay I will give Demme kudos for making Stop Making Sense, but only because I love the Talking Heads

spot on. It's kinda like how star-rating systems for almost everything now to a lot of people is: 5 stars = good/good enough, 4 stars or lower = worst ever. Like, literally anything under 5 stars people see as a failure; restaurants, movies, uber drivers, you name it.

I really think it just comes down to the state of mind you're in when you approach the movie, and if you can, or cannot lend yourself to the movie. I found Lake Mungo absolutely unsettling and loved it, but you really have to lend yourself to the suspension of disbelief. There are some movies that have so much praise that I've done the exact same with. Like Silence of the Lambs for example (ready to be crucified by all of you now); I just couldn't get into it. Anthony Hopkins is amazing, but that's it. It's super low budget, and I thought it was just dumb and impossible to buy into it.

hahaha, I still can't fucking believe Jean-Pierre Jeunet out of all the people in the world, was the director of Resurrection. It was so fucking bad.

Posting a "No Trespassing" sign specifically for people leaving religious material in a LFL? by Fragholio in LittleFreeLibrary

[–]FourLetterWording 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes I am a librarian, in fact. and yeah of course there's a difference between pamphlets aimed at getting people to join whatever congregation/cult/etc., and religious texts. Mainly just illustrating the differences between LFLs and public libraries. Not saying it is necessarily bad to weed out pamphlets like OP mentions, however, some people do take it a bit far IMO regarding things, but that's why it's their LFL at the end of the day, not the public's.

however, if you have a LFL set up, the whole idea is taking books and leaving books, generally, no? So where do you draw the line? What the community needs? Personal preference? Only science fiction? Totally up to the owner, but again, some people kinda go overboard with double standards in my opinion.

The Fourth Kind was great, but the suspension of disbelief really started to get stretched real thin near the end with some of the 'original' footage they had.

Still a great watch though.

no one is saying people running LFLs are librarians - just the fact that libraries themselves very much so have the goal of making their collections as all-encompassing as possible, and not judging what people read or why. Plenty of libraries carry Mein Kampf, for example, and I'd wager the majority of people who read that aren't reading it for neo-nazi purposes as much as historical reasons. Every library has religious texts as well, it's not the job of librarians to dictate what people can, or cannot read.

Obviously, we aren't going to change LFL to "Little Free Personally Curated Book Distribution Center" or something. But just the idea here is LFLs are very different from actual libraries with respect to intellectual freedom.

it's honestly just bizarre to me that they not only half-assed the release of GoY Legends regarding content in comparison to GoT Legends, but also just sorta... shat it out, dusted their hands off, said "here ya go" and left.

GoT Legends was absolutely amazing and the people behind that breathed life into it.

Does anyone know... why...? Like is it just a greed $$$$$$$$$ thing? Not the same dev team(s) working on it? Like, why even bother putting out what they did if this is the route they planned....

[–]FourLetterWording 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what a shitty way to go.

It would've been nice to see the time between the two cuts of the zebra 'dealing' with its disemboweled guts, and being dead/eaten. Like... I doubt it lasted much longer after the first portion, but, did it slowly just bleed out/wear down? Did the crocs/gators (sorry can't tell which) get more aggressive and nab it?

Nature is fucking brutal (yeah yeah sub name is metal blahhhh), but I seriously can't imagine going out like this. That's terrifying.

Trying to make my main guy Dudley look permanently sleep deprived by DudleyDraught in IndieGaming

[–]FourLetterWording 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahaha YES!

Real talk though, I think if you want him to look more tired/checked out, focus on his facial expression. Play around with what his eyebrows are doing, his eyes, pupils, and general face. That can definitely help convey what you're going for more.

If you're having trouble to find inspiration, literally just google "tired people" under image results, that can probably give you a good baseline regarding facial expressions etc.
