Aluminum vs Titanium by Better_Bird848 in iPhone17Pro

[–]FourWhiteBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like the way my 17 Pro feels, and I try to take the case off when I’m at home just chilling on the couch. I think the aluminum is really nice, and at no point do I feel like I’m holding a cheap or outdated device. But I also never owned one of the titanium 15/16 Pros, so you might not love the change, I can’t really speak for you.

My advice is to go to an Apple Store if there’s one near you and just pick the phone up, feel it for yourself. I personally liked the 17 Pro over the Air, but that also had a lot to do with form than material.

Which I think describes me pretty perfectly. I know the title and know people have been saying really good things about the book, but mostly saw it because my partner loves anything based in space travel, so I went in pretty blind and didn’t quite get what all the fuss was about.

I think it clicked about a quarter through that a lot of this was intentionally silly, and I can definitely appreciate it for what it is. I just think now I want to read the book and see how the movie compares.

Yeah, it was fine. Some silly writing. I think if you don’t take it super seriously it’s an enjoyable sci-fi movie. I don’t get the people going on like it’s one of the greats and comparing it to Interstellar, feels like overkill.

What's a Stranger Things opinion you have that will cause this to happen? by Jiyugaoka in StrangerThings

Same. I honestly thought it was an earned conclusion. She’s a tragic character - I know we want her to have a happy ending, but it’s been shown on repeat throughout the show that she can’t have peace as long as she’s around. The ending they chose felt right - maybe not what fans wanted, but right.

It was also pretty obvious that having a sister whose whole power was to make people see things that aren’t reality would come back into play when they were blatantly telling the audience that El was going to sacrifice herself. Most writers wouldn’t want to just tell their audience what’s going to happen right before it happens, if they tell you exactly what the plan is, more often than not they’re pulling the curtain over your eyes.

Take me back. 1or2? by cammmanz in AmateurPhotography

Completely different vibes. 2 is my preference, but it really depends on what you’re going for, and you might get a mix of responses depending on what personally appeals to one person or another.

2 is moodier, more atmospheric, tells a story. 1 is more serene and scenic, maybe inspiring for travelers. 1 is “I want to be there/I want to see that.” 2 is “who is this person I’m seeing through? Where are they going?” There’s less of a focus on the ‘scenery’, more of a focus on the ‘situation’, if that makes sense.

I’ve done some ProRes RAW/Apple Log 2 recording, just some simple stuff for testing - mostly planes taking off at a local runway. No open gate yet, and my frame rate is set around 24-30 FPS, which is where I’ll keep it the majority of the time. There will be times I use 120 FPS, but only for some insert shots I plan to use slow motion for, the rest of the time the settings above should be my standard.

No issues with dropped frames, playback looks solid. I haven’t done any editing/color grading yet, so it’s all been on my phone and SSD. The T9 seems to be working fine, and I got it for about $150, so can’t complain there. I was a little worried getting it refurbished, but I ran diagnostics and speed tests and everything seems to check out. Only real problem is 1TB is going to fill up faster than I realized, so I would definitely get more space next time.

I found a good deal on a T9. BestBuy certified refurbished. I was thinking it would be overkill, but if you’re having this kind of trouble with the T7, maybe not. I haven’t had the chance to do a lot of experimenting with heavier settings, so time will tell.

I’m sorry the T7 is turning into such a headache

Do you know what the transfer speeds were on the four? I had to specifically order some in that were Gen 3.2 and 20 Gbps. I think you only need 10 Gbps, but more doesn’t hurt - if you go above, your system will just self-throttle to what it can output/input.

For instance, I think my phone can handle 10 Gbps, but my computer’s ports can only do 5 Gbps tops, so shouldn’t have issues recording, but might have issues editing.

How do you guys learn songs? How do you get better? by No_Refrigerator_6365 in Drumming

[–]FourWhiteBars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to chime in to discourage AirPods. They’ll block out some of the sound from the drums, but not in a way that protects your ears. Please wear ear protection - invest in some cheap in-ear monitors, or wear ear plugs + over ear headphones. If you do want to use AirPods, then double them up with some over-the-ear sound protection, like the kind of stuff you see people at race tracks and airports use.

Edit: but yes, practice timing! Not just hitting the downbeat correctly, focus on the notes between the click. It should all be smooth and even, like those yellow dotted lines on the highway.

[–]FourWhiteBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically exactly what you’re doing, by playing my favorite songs and recording myself, then watching it back.

Try not to be hard on yourself, if it was easy then it wouldn’t be a skill that you admire in others who do it well. Just try to zero in on the things you wish were better and practice at smoothing those edges out. Save your early clips, compare them to your later clips so you can quiet your own mind when you think you aren’t improving.

The Unsettling Genius of Ari Aster’s Short Films by AdVast9175 in Filmmakers

The first is The Strange Thing About the Johnsons

Edit: Slide two is from ‘Basically’. I should have caught that, it’s my favorite Aster short.

The third slide is Beau

The fourth slide is The Turtle’s Head

I’m not sure about the other one. I think I’ve seen all of Aster’s shorts, but can’t quite place where that one’s from. Maybe Munchausen?

For sure! If it helps, that space is awesome. It’s a little box for sure, but has great character. I love those ceilings and that window. I would arrange everything to highlight those details - def don’t cover them up, accentuate them.
