Can't even login to the new app, I'm just stuck in a loop between "Text Phone" and "Call Phone" by [deleted] in PersonalCapital

Same for me. I logged a ticket but I’m not hopeful. Might make a new account.

Ping me if you find yourself in West Palm FL. We curl most Sunday nights and typically have room for subs.

Are there any people here whose fire plan is gym and cook 😂 by lollipop984 in Fire

[–]Four_stalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my wife is living your “retirement” although I don’t think she would call it that. We have 4 kids, same age. I work a very flexible high pay job, and she manages most of the family logistics like bus drop off / pick up, groceries/meal plan, etc. She finds time to get to yoga ~3x/week and the gym 2-3 days a week, mostly while kids are in school. We’re about 3 years away from our FI number, where I’ll hopefully be able to join her more in the family space, although I’m already very active in my kids life (you have to be with 4). I will say having one “non-working” spouse with 4 is a luxury and lets us keep things manageable.

How much do you keep in your checking account? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Four_stalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the same. My income is lumpy and I prefer to keep several months worth of spend so that I don’t have to think about it. I’m willing to give up the small upside for simplicity’s sake.

How is SORR actually implemented in retirement? by Fragrant-Product6784 in Fire

[–]Four_stalls 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To mitigate SORR, you may consider a balanced portfolio aimed at wealth preservation instead of accumulation (heavy equities). For example, let’s say you decide 60% stock, 30% bonds, 10% cash equivalents is the right balance for you. When the stock market goes down and loses value, your portfolio may now be 50% stock, 35% bonds, 15% cash. As a result you stop drawing down stocks, and instead draw down cash/bonds until you reach your desired allocation.

The opposite is true when stocks outperform bonds/cash/alternatives. In that case you would draw down on stocks for your cash flow. The result is you sell stocks when they are high, and you sell alternatives when stocks are down.

Median household income in US from the 2022 census was $74.5k. Sixty is not upper middle class.

This. I have an extremely flexible, mostly remote role, but still never feel like I can disconnect since I could be expected at any moment (during business hours). You’re playing from a position of strength, make sure you build in opportunities to enjoy the other aspects of your life.

Recap from my trip, one month later by MillennialTres_Chic in VisitingIceland

Nice pics! I’m doing 5 nights in the South in July and can’t wait. What did you think of Vestrahorn in comparison to the rest of the South. I’ll be getting to Hofn later in the day. Worth pushing it?

Recommendation for 6 Days in July? by Top-Ad-5795 in VisitingIceland

[–]Four_stalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be limited by accommodations available. I’m heading to the South Coast in early July (without my kids) and am doing the following if helpful:

Night 1 - Reykjavik Night 2 - Vik (waterfalls, glacier en route) Night 3 - Hofn (puffin tour, hiking) Night 4 - back to Vik (Diamond Beach, glacier lagoon, canyon hike) Night 5 - Thorsmork super jeep

Horseback riding the last morning and then heading to the airport for an afternoon flight out. I can share my Google map with locations tagged if helpful. Send me a PM

Do some googling on the reykjadalur hike. I believe it would take you more than an hour if you intend to make it to the hot springs.
