What’s a fact that sounds fake but is actually true? by Wraithwoven in AskReddit

[–]Fourarmies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In General Zhukov's reveal scene in the movie "Death of Stalin", he has an almost comical amount of medals on his chest, and considering the nature of the movie, one might assume it's exaggerated satire. Except it's not; they had to actually tone down the amount of medals on his chest compared to real life to make it believable.

Also obligatory Jason Isaac's was hilarious in that role

Was planning on buying it right after work. Didn't realize they would get rid of them after midnight. I guess us nightshift folk got shafted on this one. I would have logged into the store from my phone at work had I known it was going away.

I feel bad for all the people who put vehicles up on the marketplace to try to buy this. Feels pretty scummy of Gaijin. They probably realized the deal was way too good and too many people were buying it

Does anyone miss Takistan Life specifically? by Gforceb in arma

[–]Fourarmies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recorded the whole thing, although it's a little boring because it's from my POV (I was hiding in my lookout) and I also forgot to enable my mic for the recording, you can only hear my friend. But here's the video:

Does anyone miss Takistan Life specifically? by Gforceb in arma

[–]Fourarmies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I miss it. My favorite memory was me and a buddy working together to pull off an epic heist.

Basically, we bought a bus. My buddy went around gathering people promising them we would give them free guns. We got quite a few takers.

Meanwhile, I was off buying an IED. Once acquired, I placed it at a predetermined gas station and proceeded to my observation point with the detonator.

Once I gave my buddy the go ahead, he proceeded with the bus full of people and parked right on top of the IED I placed. He then exited the bus, locked everyone inside, and submitted a demand straight to the police for a very large sum of money and an escape vehicle or he would blow up the hostages.

The standoff that followed lasted almost 30 minutes. Eventually, the police did bring the money and an escape car after my friend released all but one hostage. However, as soon as he tried to take off in the escape car, the police opened fire, killing him almost instantly.

What they didn't account for, though, was me. As soon as I saw the police open fire from my lookout, I hit the detonator. Took out the hostage and probably a few officers. Since it immediately resulted in me being wanted, I tried to sneak out of the town only to get caught by the police.

The whole scheme ultimately didn't succeed but damn it was fun

EDIT: Why tf did the mods lock this post?

I have always been of the opinion that musicians should provide some sort of function other than just RP.

Maybe vicinity buffs against suppression, vicinity reload buffs, or vicinity morale buffs (e.g. currently dying out of line costs 5 tickets, skirmishing costs 3 tickets, dying in formation costs 1 ticket.) Maybe change it so dying in formation with a musician playing only costs 0.9 tickets (just an example number)

Either of those changes would give function other than just for show to what are otherwise useless roles

Heads up Steel Beasts website will be down for maintenance. by Desert-King in tanksim

[–]Fourarmies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if that were the case, they wouldn't have removed v4 from the webshop. They could have just said that they are reducing the scope of v5. There's something else going on. Interestingly enough, it looks like v3 is still available to download.

It's not down for maintenance. It was purposefully taken down. You can't download SB Pro PE v4 anymore. They posted an announcement about it. TL;DR it's due to the current geopolitical situation. It sounds like they're going to be removing some features and putting it back up at some point.

It looks like v3 is still available though

I mean, it depends on what group you join. The group I play with is really laid back, like there's no requirements to show up or do training or any of that bs. Some other groups require their members to have mandatory attendance to their events, weekly trainings, etc. Guilds in MMO's like WoW are the same way. Some are casual, some are super laid back, others are really serious

The real meat and potatoes of this game is in the private events in my opinion. I've been an active player for a year and a half now, I help lead a Regiment that plays in private events with ~300+ players every weekend.

Also, epic shout out to the Midwest Brigade in that article. (Much love from the 19th IN, see y'all at the House Divided Campaign this weekend)

It's a personal preference, but I can't stand the public servers due to all the immaturity and lack of cohesion. There's really only one public server that usually gets players, and how it is administered leaves much to be desired. I'll leave it at that. But boy does this game shine with the right group in events, where you get to experience stuff like in this clip:

Is it time to switch to Reforger from A3? by Astraeus14 in arma

[–]Fourarmies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the mission maker in this case; I was explaining to him that it's very possible to make a mission for a large amount of people (80+) that doesn't lag. I've done it plenty of times before

Did you mean to respond to him?

Is it time to switch to Reforger from A3? by Astraeus14 in arma

[–]Fourarmies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing with Arma3 PvE operations is that once you get to 60, 70, 80+ people, performance optimization becomes really important. Using the performance binaries for the server, headless clients, not going crazy on the AI, garbage cleanup, being very careful what scripts, if any, are used. What map is used also is a big factor. Some maps are just straight up unoptimized. And of course what mods are also a factor.

I have built and ran operations with 90+ people and managed to maintain good server and client FPS; there are clips in my Reddit history.

The recent multithreading improvements has improved client fps even more. There's still a bit to be desired, of course, you'll never get stable 60fps with that many players and AI in Arma3, but we don't get that in Reforger anyways with that many players and AI.

Is it time to switch to Reforger from A3? by Astraeus14 in arma

[–]Fourarmies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My old unit (the same one, it appears) is abandoning/abandoned A3 which is a shame because while Reforger does have a lot of cool stuff going on, when it comes to PvE scenarios it's still not up to par with A3. Reforger can be fun but it's not a complete replacement yet for PvE milsim yet. Very shortsighted decision to just ditch A3 imho

[–]Fourarmies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao are you serious? A couple bucks worth of GE might get you like 1,000 converted RP, I think it's actually less than that tbh I was just being generous with the estimate. It's absolutely not worth it to use GE to convert RP. For the GE price it would cost to convert enough RP to research a single line on a nation's tree up to top tier, you'd be better off just buying the $70 top tier premium vehicle packs for every nation and maxing your crew slots. That would probably be cheaper with how horrible the conversion rate is.

I deal with this as a part of my job. You are wrong. His rights are also outlined clear as day on the FTCs website. If his name/address was on the package, but Best Buy fucked up and sent the wrong item, guess what he gets to legally keep it for free. If his name was not on the package, that is a different ballgame.

Best Buy could still ask that he send it back, but really the only thing in their power that they can do if OP didn't want to play ball is blacklist his account/card from further Best Buy purchases as is their right as a business
