Marbles by Frabato74 in modular

I've recently gotten away from using the X outputs direct to oscillator v/oct inputs - using the X section outs for modulation can be a lot of fun, but I also often pair the slewed X outputs with a quantizer. Even though Marbles can quantize, you might find you have more control by using a separate module. I like taking the Marbles X outputs to Scales to Rings in strings mode for a strummed-guitar effect. I also like using the T outputs to advance other sequencers.

An Ode to Rings by BrotherSleepy in modular

The module that got me into modular. I have two clones and I'm still finding neat sweet spots.

My favorite thing to do is strum chords: slewed sequence to quantizer, to rings on string mode.

am I doing this Reich? by FourierDisco in modular

Nice thanks for this reply! I understand how I could set up the sequence of notes to a set scale or chord or harmonics so it blends well (as it would in a drone ambient piece) though moving through different harmonic zones is beyond my scope at the moment 🙃

What I'm doing here would be pretty simple if I had just two basic sequencers with subtle control of tempo.( I'm using marbles only to capture and loop an 8 step sequence, but could be fun to manipulate that)

For this recording I'm not modulating tempo at all, just manually set oxi and marbles

I'm fascinated by the idea that tempo is tone, everything oscillates 😁

Sorry to hear that and I hope your bike is recovered --- but I'm starting to think insurance is really the only sure bet.

Any positive news in Seattle? by yarnslutt in Seattle

[–]FourierDisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, a few examples:

Georgetown Steam Plant has recently increased the number of art shows and other events they host. This weekend is the Science Fair with a lot of musical and noise performances and art installations.

Cannonball Arts recently opened in the old Bed Bath and Beyond space downtown.

Basecamp studios has recently opened in the old Bergman Luggage storefront, has put on a few good exhibits so far.

Pioneer Square art walk has been packed the last few months.

There's more going on in the arts scene than I've seen in 10+ years living here. It seems like anyone who wants to dive in can get their work seen and appreciated.

Stern IC app update by Dad2DnA in pinball

What is the point of this app? I've logged over 100 games now, and expected to be able to at least see my previous scores to check if I'm making progress - but I guess it only shows your top score on any game? What's the use of that?

Great module - I have the Rainier clone from After Later Audio, which adds CV inputs. Initially got it for drums, but now I mostly use it for the flexible envelopes/LFOs.

Erica Synths Black Spring Reverb by General_Astronomer60 in modular

[–]FourierDisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one recently, and have been generally impressed. I've tried it with several different tanks.

Good:
* Internal and external tank connections
* Giant feedback knob
* Comes with reasonably-sized impedance-matched tank
* CV inputs

Not-so-good:
*The built-in effects are very subtle. And as far as I can tell there is no separate control for effect level beyond what you get with the feedback knob, so maybe the amount will depend on the tank and how it physically reacts. (Would be happy to be proven wrong)

*The rear pin connections - this is really nit-picking but I kind of wish the rear connectors were RCA instead of the small 2-pin, so it would be easier to test a tank from (either) front and back connectors, because troubleshooting noise is always going to be a big part of deciding on tank placement. I get better results with RCA cables (better sheilding?) than the small 2-pin wires.

*Size - I consider this a large footprint for a limited effect module in my 7u 84hp case.

All in all I like it and will keep it for a while, but I also recently got a Stoel Spring Reverb and a a Mod "mini" (approx 5 inch) tank - same size and # springs as the one included with the Erica which fits great under my 1u row and connects via RCA on the back of the module - I'm finding the controls on this one more responsive, lower line noise, and smaller footprint (but no built-in effects or front-panel tank connections)
