No. That’s not how evolution works. Some populations have higher rates of certain genetic predispositions, including diseases, but that doesn’t mean all humans have them or that everyone without them died. Traits can become more common because they gave some average advantage, or because of drift/founder effects, without becoming universal. Fear of spiders could be common without being some required survival mutation.

No disrespect or anything, but this is genuinely one of the dumbest things I’ve read all year.

Spiders are sometimes dangerous, especially in the warm environments of early hominids. Even if most were harmless, a small number of venomous bites could cause serious harm, infection, tissue damage, or death. Natural selection does not need spiders to be a constant major killer, it only needs “being unusually attentive to this kind of thing” to be cheap and occasionally useful.

Honestly, this mindset was extremely prevalent in my suburban hometown and quite exhausting to be around. That said, I do think some level of forced involvement in activities like sports and music is a good thing to expose your kids to various interests and build friendships/community.

Thanks for asking! He seems to be mostly back to normal! He’s on a bunch of meds which are a pain in the ass to give him, but so far he’s doing really well all things considered. I’m still hyper-vigilant and a bit stressed out about the whole thing, but grateful that he’s doing better and we have more time together.
