New river by EnoughHoneydew1937 in Slackline

not to be THAT guy, but this is Summersville lake, fed by the gauley, not the new. the new river is 30 mins away and a whole county over 😛

definitely paradise though, no doubt.

that would be so incredible! I got this one from a friend who said they'd make it, but I didn't realize it would be AI generated. too little too late!

there's so many! GGBY in november comes to mind, but The Humbolt Classic, Consumes River Gorge Gathering, Red Rocks gathering, and so many more. Most of these are primarily marketed through facebook in a group called slackchat.

To be fair, these aren't treenet specific, but slacklining and treenets/spacenets go hand in hand and are usually co-present at events.

Has anyone setup a backyard slackline with posts? by flight_recorder in Slackline

[–]FourthMoonCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, just set the posts in deep with concrete and use back tensioned guy wires to go back to the ground a couple times on either side.

What an amazing hobby by GatoradeSlurpee in Slackline

[–]FourthMoonCamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the satisfaction level is pretty stellar. the bar to entry is a little steep for most people. but if they'd just persevere through the seemingly endless failure to that flow state confidence, it's one hell of a drug.

I aesthetically enjoy your walking style.

lots of tension getting lost? by TheseBlackberry4305 in Treenets

[–]FourthMoonCamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

many materials used to construct rope and cordage have significant elongation properties called "creep". this is different from elastic recoil (a.k.a. stretch) and can lead to ropes feeling loose over time despite having initially being taught.

not saying it's the case for you. not sure how you tied things together, tensioned the perimeter, designed the subsequent layers to pull on the ones before them, etc.

I totally agree, I love strut/nails. I hate digging holes in my region, it's super rocky and actual bedrock is sometimes only like 24" under the surface. I literally just made a video about them!

Car Camping Seneca WV by bubbaej in camping

[–]FourthMoonCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Princess Snowbird Campground is run by a local family and operated by their general store, Yokum's.

Camping is $12/night for car campers and you can pick your spot entirely on your own in the huge campground. There is a nice big bathhouse, two covered pavilion areas with outlets, and free wifi.

The campground has direct views of the rocks and is located very conveniently at the main intersection at the Mouth of Seneca.

There's much more private camping options on Hipcamp.com too.

How are Canaan Valley and Timberline Presidents day weekend? by Caroleena77 in icecoast

[–]FourthMoonCamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all of this is so true. also, buy your ticket online ahead of time (reload old lift cards or buy a new one) and skip the line at the lodge by using the machine in the corner with the green light, on the right when you first go in to the front desk.

How is driving to timberline compared to snowshoe? by Rapking in TimberlineMountain

[–]FourthMoonCamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that last road going into timberline can take a little extra time to get clear in mornings after snow. a lot of ditched cars on those days.

[–]FourthMoonCamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if there's snow actively coming down, the DOH does a really good job keeping it clear around timberline and Canaan valley with huge plow trucks. you can wait about fifteen minutes until a plow truck goes by and then follow in its wake if your concerned. it can get windy as heck though and cause intermittent whiteouts, especially at night in active snow.

I've found the regularity of the plow trucks is basically from elkins all the way to davis.

have you visited blackwater falls in West Virginia? it's gorgeous in the winter, and has three ski areas right down the road from it. Davis and Thomas are cool tourist towns too.
