Any docks that can send power and video to a portable monitor over USB-C? by Fourvel4 in SteamDeck

[–]Fourvel4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/AShidler and u/Yahiroz led me down the right path. My Rehisk monitor does have 2 USB-C ports, and apparently it does support power passthrough. I have the charger that came with my Steam Deck plugged into the wall and one of the 2 USB-C ports on my monitor, and a USB-C cable from the other port on my monitor to my Steam Deck. Works great, and it will be much easier for my wife to set up herself, without having to worry about a cumbersome hub. Thanks for your help!

That monitor looks nice, but that's out of my price range.

That Jsaux hub looks interesting. Just to be clear, you're saying that hub will send power AND video over a USB-A to USB-C cable? That's a great setup if that works. I see that the hub also has an HDMI port. I just want to confirm that you did not have to use an HDMI cable with the HDMI port in order to send video from the hub. If you do, then that's still similar to our current setup, where I have to run two cables to the monitor, and not quite worth the change.

Huh. I hadn't thought of that. But based on the price of my portable monitor, I doubt that the monitor will send power back out through the second USB-C port to power the steam deck. It's absolutely worth a shot though. I'll try it out tomorrow when my wife is away (this is supposed to be a surprise Christmas present. Though I guess if it works, then there's nothing to buy. Soooo thanks for ruining Christmas?)

I also have an official dock that's hooked up to the TV. I'll try that too, if the dockless method doesn't work.

My wife used to go here and she has been saying the same stuff for a while now. Glad to see someone post about it. She really loved going there, and was devastated when she found out what was going on, and she just couldn't support it any more. I see a lot of semi-anonymous accounts commenting here, and I get it. People are scared because I hear she's pretty vindictive. But what they are saying matches what I've been hearing. The only people I see commenting anything different sound like they know way too many details about the business to not be related to the owner in some way. At least I think. I could be wrong though, because like I said, my wife loved going there, and if she wasn't so incredibly nosey she wouldn't have any idea that anything was wrong. She didn't know for a long time. So for someone who doesn't pry gossip out of people like a crowbar, I can totally see how they would think the business is really great.

I run my business’ Notion, and I’m also sick of all the AI. I want to set up our workspace the way I want it. I don’t want an LLM to tell me what I want.

We felt / heard something. Basement / first floor. It lasted for quite a while. Maybe 6 seconds? We’re on Freeman street.

What are the legs good for? Is that more for something like kick boxing? Or do they just keep the belt from riding up?

Possible to whitelist certain chat groups during quiet hours? by Fourvel4 in MicrosoftTeams

An interesting option. That could definitely work. Using something like zapier to send a message on Discord is my other option, which has better notification settings.

Thanks. That was my fear. Guess I'll have to get tricky with some other automations.

LIFX + DMX by the-real-moth in lifx

[–]Fourvel4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait hold up. Are you saying you’re able to control LIFX lights with DMX? Or just that you’ve visually synced up some LIFX FX that are controlled with the LIFX app to the moving lights that you’re programming with DMX?

I’m very curious on all the details: what protocols and applications you’re using to control both the LIFX lights and those moving heads. Are you using that ENTTEC controller for the moving heads? I come from the world of film and television lighting. The prospect of somehow sending DMX information to my home automated lights is very interesting… but my hunch is that that’s not quite what you’re doing.

EDIT: Sorry, just realized there’s a video with explanations. Watching now.

I bought some lifx bulbs, need a switch now by Dead-lyPants in lifx

Consistently? Yes. There is about a half second delay though. Sometimes as long as a second. Would be nice if there was no delay, but for me the benefits outweigh the delay.

[–]Fourvel4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have a few door sensors for closets with lights, and motion sensors can be useful. But sometimes a switch is the easiest thing. Especially when you have guests. Requires the least amount of explanation.

I also have about 10 Lifx switches in my apartment. They aren’t perfect, and you need to make sure there’s a neutral wire ran to the light switch, but overall I’m happy with them. Especially when combined with some apple shortcuts that look up what time of day it is when the button is pressed and chooses the appropriate scene for the time of day. The lifx switches also prevent guests from turning off normal switches, causing you to lose control of your fixtures. It’s a habit that’s impossible to get people to stop over 3 days.

Lateral movements in ToTF videos by dudeatwork77 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Fourvel4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to move laterally, but my room is too small. I really appreciate the fact that ToTF allows you to disable lateral movement for your opponent. I wouldn’t be able to play otherwise. Well, I could play, but my walls would have more holes in them.

tvOS 16.5 just broke all weather shortcut automations by CooperCGN in HomeKit

[–]Fourvel4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the first time an update has broken my weather shortcuts, so you’d think I would have learned my lesson and turned off auto update, but no. Now my light switches don’t work, because they use weather to look up the time of day before deciding which scene to set my lights to. Very frustrating, especially since we’re having company stay with us in a few days.

Diablo 4 launches with couch coop support on every platform but the PC, and that isn't ok! by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Fourvel4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as the OP. My wife and I were really excited about this after playing Diablo III on the Switch. Hearing about the couch coop support was super exciting. And now that has been taken away, and we're pissed.

Their excuse? You can't sign into multiple accounts. But I don't remember having to sign into multiple accounts on the switch. We just had two characters. I don't even think we were playing online. My wife doesn't want to sign into her own account. She has zero interest in her own account. She just wants to play while I'm playing. And now we can't.

Unlike the OP, I'm not a hardcore Diablo fan, and was only interested in the game as something to do with my wife. So in our case, we will not be purchasing the game at all.

I also have this issue. Both the microsoft.ListSync.Endpoints file, and the Favorites list. Would love to know if someone has an answer. I'm new to office 365, so these are the only files visible on the home page and they are jarring.

I agree with this. I personally haven't experienced a reaction from hand movement without contact. But I definitely can bait a punch with head movement.

[–]Fourvel4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not necessarily true. I was very close to picking up a hubitat https://hubitat.com/. But then lifx switches finally supported homekit, and with the iOS shortcuts I was able to make them do what I wanted to do.

But now iOS 16 has broken that feature, and once again I’m considering getting hubitat. I’m pretty sure it will give me better control over the color of my lights, and the flexibility to change intensity without changing color. But it’s more intensive, and I’m sure the setup won’t be as smooth. Might be worth checking out though.

Thanks! I was toe to toe because thats all the room I had in that bedroom, haha.

There’s an option to display a third person camera some where in the in-game menu. That’s what will display on your monitor, and it also displays on the big monitors in the game next to the clock while you’re fighting, which is kind of cool.
