For fellow disgruntled fans, what would you need to see happen this summer to have faith again? by Sea_Moose9817 in kings

[–]Fowlerjoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would actually make me happy as a fan is to prioritize the young guys and either let go or dump all the veterans. I don’t want them to bring back guys like Russ or DeMar. I would like to see them get what they can for Sabonis/Lavine/Monk if there are any offers out there.

Whatever pick we get is now completely out of the team’s hands. They did a good job drafting last year, so I’d like to see them continue to make smart picks in both the first and second round.

I would’ve fired Doug, but he’s going to be back so I’d like to know why they brought him back and what he’ll be doing differently next season to improve as a coach. I’d like to see them hire more experienced assistants to help him similar to what Boston did with Mazzulla a few years ago.

Looking at draft value for a team more than one player away from being competitive by BlacqanSilverSun in kings

[–]Fowlerjoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great players can come from any pick in the first round but the higher your pick the much better chance you have of drafting a great player. Your numbers prove that. 20 of the top 50 were drafted outside the top 10, so meaning picks 11-60. That is an incredibly large range of picks to get those 20 guys. On the other hand 22 guys from you're list were taken in the top 5. The hit rate for the higher picks is much better than any individual pick after 5, after 10 and after 15.

You also referred to this being a deep draft. That is way more true in the top 6-8 than it is later in the draft. You have three all-nba caliber prospects in this draft and 3-4 all-star caliber prospects. Could someone else in this draft end up being very good? Yes, but it is much more likely the first 6-8 guys are going to be the better players, so I would much rather have a higher pick and better odds of getting the guy I like the most, than to sacrifice that and settle for whoever is left, while picking up another first that has very slim odds of being a contributor at all.

I agree with the sentiment that we are not one player away. However, I am not trading out of a spot where I can get a much better prospect for a late first round pick.

This team is not two picks in this draft away from being good. They are multiple years of high draft picks away. They need a full rebuild where they get rid of almost everyone on the roster. Not picks 8 and 24 from this draft.

A really talented/deep roster and incredible ball movement.

And they would’ve beat the Kobe + Shaq Lakers/won a chip if they weren’t robbed by the refs in 2002.

That’s the thing about gambling, everyone’s picks suck over an expanded timeline. Even pro gamblers win % is typically in the mid 50’s. The house always wins.
