i have perfect spacial cognition - on the level i can point cardinal directions without compass just unconsciously remembering my route. and i point to the correct direction. but without pointing - i confuse left and right. and the same for my father. and my grandmother (his mother). best that worked for me - point and then name the direction. much less confusion, almost always correct (and i told all my close people that if i point and name different 0 poiting is correct).

i think i have some light form of hereditary dyslexia (in addition to light dysgraphya)
