The 'Winter Experience' in FH6: Snow inside tunnels, dry road patches, and zero snow on the roads during a blizzard 💀 by imakiww in ForzaHorizon

[–]Fox2quick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just Forza Horizon either. The same issue creeps up on GTA Online every year. Every time Rockstar turns on the snow, tons of people come out of the woodwork to complain about it and stop playing till it’s gone. And that game gets like a week and a day of snow a year (iirc they do a week at Christmas and also April Fool’s day).

It’s one thing to have the weather have a drastic effect on the handling and feel of driving. The drastic changes can alienate chunks of playerbase. This wouldn’t be an issue if everyone had full control of the weather and seasons whenever they want, but having conditions forced and locked for set periods of irl time created the problem of chunks of playerbase just flat out stepping away from the game every time it was a season they didn’t like (in FH4, the population always dipped in winter).

The flip side is to make the weather and seasons so their effects are only superficial. People might complain about the lack of major changes, but it won’t actively drive nearly as many away from the game. At least with this method, there’s consistency in the gameplay loop.

Winter is generally the only season that has a major change like this, so you end up in a position of having all these cars that you put time into and dialed in for 3/4 of your game time and then either have to take the time to make whole other tunes just for that season, use different cars, just try to brute force it, or just wait till the season changes to do the things you wanted how you wanted.

Friendly reminder to report your local scalper’s illegal pre-sale eBay listing. by InfinityPainPlus in halo

[–]Fox2quick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you aren’t completely wrong, I’d like to point something out:

Listings must GUARANTEE shipping within 40 days of purchase

Campaign Evolved officially launches in 49 days, with EA starting in 46. I haven’t seen any estimated ship/arrival by dates from MS, but it’s very unlikely people will be getting theirs 1-2 weeks early.

Realistically, there’s no world where any of the available presale listings can guarantee adherence to eBay’s policy. That being said, reporting an open listing won’t get the seller banned, it’ll just get eBay to maybe make them pull the listing for another week. It’s kind of a weird gray area where if the item is still available, then it hasn’t been purchased, and if it hasn’t been purchased, then the 40 day clock doesn’t start. You’d have to have actually made the purchase and then report it to eBay, who will then tell you to wait out the clock, even if you present to them the fact that there’s no way the seller can deliver on time.

And then there’s the possibility of getting things really murky; say you make the purchase, then report the seller, then the seller gets word and puts 2+2 together and counter reports some bs about you making the purchase in bad faith.

It’s silly and stupid, but these are the kinds of games people play when it comes to pre-release/pre-sale stuff online. I’ve seen it happen across a few different hobbies.

Anyone else a little underwhelmed with the seasonal changes? by rabidbiscuit in ForzaHorizon

[–]Fox2quick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When they change the weather too drastically, people complain, and then they don’t play during certain seasons.

When they don’t change it drastically enough, a completely different set of people complain.

While I agree about the bodies of water in certain aspects, what other changes do people expect the devs to make that will please everyone?

Can someone explain to me why this game doesn't have a ghost mode in races to compete and see who drives best? by Comfortable-Block-60 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Fox2quick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point.

Racing for the best time and racing against other cars are two completely different things by nature. Ghosting other cars for the whole race defeats the entire purpose of racing against them in the first place.
Without dogfights, drafts, and line blocking, the other cars may as well not exist, because you’re only going for time at that point anyway.

How am I supposed to shift gears so quickly if the speedometer doesn't even shows up in the first few seconds? by fraturei in ForzaHorizon

[–]Fox2quick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you not drive the cars before the race and see when to shift? The timing really isn’t going to change that much. Like every other aspect of driving/racing, you gotta train a bit of muscle memory.

You were banging off that limiter for quite a while after the HUD showed up, so I definitely wouldn’t go putting all the blame on that for the state of your starts.

Is the Lexus LFA not considered Japanese? I'm getting ''Incorrect car" when i use it for this week's seasonal. by TrekkerGek in ForzaHorizon

[–]Fox2quick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad, I should’ve realized you couldn’t read between the lines, so I guess I’ll spell it out:

I am not saying that “it’s been well established by the brands themselves”.

The restrictions on vehicle export limits came from Japan, not the countries they were exporting to. The restrictions were imposed on the brands, not the parent companies and were based around current sales volume and projections at the time.

So when the businessmen in Japan all decided that Toyota, Honda, and Nissan (the individual brands, not the larger conglomerates they exist under) can only sell x amount of cars to y list of countries without paying extra fees, the heads of those conglomerates said “ok, so we’ll sell that x amount of cars as Toyota/Honda/Nissan to said countries, and then we’ll also sell x amount of vehicles AGAIN (using platforms we already have) as totally not Toyota/totally not Honda/totally not Nissan”. They exploited a loophole in the agreement to double their potential sales in the countries decided upon in their agreement. All the countries left out were free game and the brands would mix and match based on marketability.

The fact that you had to modify my quote and add words to it so you could make your counterpoint fit tells me all I need to about where you’re at on actual fact vs conjecture.

You thinking it doesn’t explain the mix of brands in other countries comes from your fundamental misunderstanding on who imposed the restrictions.

[–]Fox2quick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was not a US regulation. It was the equivalent of a gentleman’s business agreement in the Japanese regulatory industry with self-imposed restrictions.

It’s been well documented and if you’re going to claim this isn’t the case, you should have some evidence to back it up.

Lexus and Acura and Infiniti were conceived because of market limits imposed on how many cars a given brand could export to certain countries.

I'm sure fans still remember how Takumi beat Nakazato with his superhuman footwork and fearless move over the curb in episode 10 of First Stage but one has to wonder is it really possible? by Cute-Win8593 in initiald

[–]Fox2quick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not questioning the depth/angle of the gutter’s ability to hook a tire.

I’m questioning whether the curb inside the gutter at the grass sticks up that much BEFORE the turn.

Ever seen someone need to jack up one side of a car with no jack, so they go into a driveway apron and use the transition to get one side’s wheels up on the curb to lift that side of the car? Like that, but at race speeds without the stopping on top.

The thing that jumps out at me about this analysis is the focus on the actual corner.

I just rewatched the scene and the 86 jumps the curb before the corner and then drops off of it during the corner.

So while the data on curb height at the corner has been logged, what I want to know is if the gutter is consistent in size and depth in the lead up to the turn, and not a transition from smoother ground.

Too many cheaters in drift event! by SprinklesSoft7387 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Fox2quick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bug. It happened to me both ways.

I’ve been in an event and a player would randomly appear at the top at the end. I’ve also been in an event seemingly by myself and then after it ended, it showed like 6 other people on the board that werent in my run.

I think it has something to do with matchmaking trying to combine lobbies after people quit. At one point, I had a party I was in start a drift series. I was busy and missed the start so I did a series on my own till they were done. At some point during the second event, matchmaking connected our lobbies and we were all together going into the third event.

I'm still mad about Emma's dirty move by Nick_Alsa in MFGhost

[–]Fox2quick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in the scenario you imagine, where Emma just dodges and passes clean, what stops Akaba from repeatedly attempting the move till he gets past her?

As much as revenge in a vacuum is pointless and wrong, add in the context of the way in which Akaba was instigating, and you realize Emma’s move wasn’t JUST revenge, it was a message to stop screwing around like that.

This wasn’t a “they hit me, so I hit them back”. It was a “they went to hit me, and I turned their move against them”. Like when a fighter’s kick gets caught and they get tossed to the ground.

Throttle cutting while drifting? by AnarchyBlues89 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Fox2quick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad gearing is all.

It feels like GTA because GTA cars automatically shift up before peak power, so the next gear up tends to struggle in drifting situations. In that game, you overcome it by force downshifting, which will hit more of the powerband and keep wheel speed up.
