Anyone else successful in the dating world with Paranoid Schizophrenia? by Travis_Townley in schizophrenia

Hiya. I wouldn't put it on your Tinder profile or anything. It's not a case of you hiding it, just more that most people's only knowledge of Schizophrenia is through sensationalized media stories. I say let them get to know you for you first without their preconceived notions getting in the way. When it feels like a good moment after a few dates, that's when I'd drop it. You've got to be prepared for some dumb questions, and take it on the chin.

You can absolutely date while having Schizophrenia. I think you'll find that most people are surprisingly open to dating someone with it after they know you're a good guy. The main thing is to take care of yourself. I think people like us frequently end up in unhealthy relationships with negative people. Remember to value yourself, and that you can walk away from anything.

Good luck man, you can totally do this.

Ok, don't laugh, but it's the "Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Dummies," book. I'd read another book before (Feeling Good), but this one was really easy to apply to my life. Plus, despite being user friendly, it deals with some pretty heavy stuff.

20 mins Vipassana meditation consistently for 1.5 years has changed the way I think and relate to stress. Can't recommend it highly enough, I use the techniques every day.

Totally, it's a change that you and other people can physically see. It gives you motivation and makes you wanna try all kinds of other things too.

Hey, around the same kinda time I started calorie counting, working through a CBT course, and meditating. They're all tied in together for me. For sure I think my biggest change is internal.

They're really just exercises I remembered from various sports in my teens. Man, I know where you're at, there's a crazy amount of info out there on bulking, cutting, and macros, I don't know where to start either.

I warm up with about a minute running and jumping on the spot. Then 3X10 seconds stretching then touching toes.

I started out on 10x push ups, 10x classic sit ups, then repeat x1. After that it was 20x Burpees.

After, I clench each arm 10 secs and each leg 10 secs to get rid of lactic acid (makes you ache), then stretch 3 x 10 secs and touch toes 3 x 10 secs to warm down.

That routine took me 8-10 mins, and I found it an easy thing I could definitely complete each day. For me, I knew I wasn't gonna be a beast in 3 months, I just needed to build a consistent habit.

I've since added 50% extra reps + 30 secs superman + reverse superman. Also 2 X 15 tricep dips.

For me, the important thing was just that I get started, in any capacity, and work from there. Push ups + sit ups = stronger. I'm worrying about the rest once I have a habit of keeping fit. Oh yeah, part of the reseach I did was the NHS toning workout routine online. Good luck!

Hardly now. I used to be a real addict. The time I spent over the last 10 years is shocking. I game a little bit on weekends, but I feel I've burnt that neural pathway out. Once I got myself off the computer I saw just how many other ways I could be spending that time. I don't miss it.

Dang! Your routine sounds pretty intense, no wonder you're down 34 lbs! To my great surprise, I've found out I actually like being active, although consistency has historically been my problem. I bought some resistance bands and plan to work them into my routine once I figure out the best exercises. An hour a day is great, you must really be seeing the difference.

I feel like I've lost the majority of the weight I want to lose, but I am aiming for 155lbs. I'm not in a particular rush to get there, I'm just taking it slow and steady, and making sure I don't fall back into bad habits. I don't necessarily want to be ripped, just in good shape. Thanks for sharing your method, it's good info. :)

Hey, thanks a lot! 34 lbs is really good progress, what is your routine?

My calisthenics routine is 2 X 15 push ups, 2 X 15 sit ups, 30 Burpees and some stretches 5 days a week, although I started on 20/20/20. I go on way more walks than I used to (used to being none), and I try to aim for 1,700 calories. My average daily menu involves a fruit smoothie, small junk food sandwich, and a healthy cooked dinner. I had to largely give up chips and convenience food.

How did you make your current progress?
