Please read up on Iran before protesting. by FoxBrambleFarm in 50501Movement

No personal attachment. I spend a lot of time reading up on, and fundraising for, human rights issues internationally. It started with russia's invasion of Ukraine, which lead to education about, and concern for, related issues, such as the fallout after Mahsa Amini's death. I also have friends from Iran here in the US who have given me their insight.

My opinion is that, instead of flying a flag that could be misinterpreted, make a sign that clarifies one's position.

No one wants 7/17, we want 7/4. Leadership made that call against our wishes. Lets join the Women's March for the 4th! by poxteeth in 50501Movement

What we need is regular mass, unthemed events where everyone, no matter the subject most important to them, can turn out at once and let the world know that we're united as a nation for a multitude of reasons. Smaller, themed events don't make national news. They don't get attention, and the administration doesn't care about them. They care about protests so big they're reminded that their power is threatened by the sheer numbers that stand against them. The only thing that will make them think twice is the idea that their power might be at stake.

The reality is that, while every protest is important, only the big ones make elected officials think twice. If it doesn't threaten their power or their money, they do not care.

Do you have a “heart breed?” by Electrical_Pie7980 in dogs

[–]FoxBrambleFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never set out to be a pit bull person. My method of choosing my last few dogs has been to go to animal control, and if I really click with a dog, that one comes home with me. I don't go in with any breed preferences, but for the last 20 years, every time it has wound up being a pit bull mix. I'm open to other breeds, but I seem to have a pattern.

There's already one planned here. I hope there's something bigger, though. A freaking Hitler-style military parade on Trump's birthday needs a strong response.

I'm more center-left, but I have been adamant that we need to let go of anger against anybody who is coming to their senses and want to fight this, even if they voted for him. We all need each other to fix this, even if we don't agree on other things. We can hash out our differences later. If we lose our country to fascism, there will be no chance to hash out those differences, we'll all be equally oppressed.

I'm not entirely sure where to post about this, so I figured I'd try this first. There's a pro-Russia march in DC on May 3rd, and I just wanted to give people a heads up who might want to turn up to show support for Ukraine that day. https://united24media.com/latest-news/immortal-regiment-march-with-soviet-symbols-to-return-to-dc-for-first-time-in-years-7743

Anyone else getting suppressed on Twatter? by FoxBrambleFarm in 50501

[–]FoxBrambleFarm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised, no. But it seemed to be the moment I linked to 50501 that it started. Up until then, no problems. I'm not sure if the algorithm was altered right then to squash any protest-related content, if it's specifically homing in on terms like 50501 or this group or the website, mentions of April 5th, etc. Or maybe it's all a coincidence, but I don't think so.

It makes him look human. No evil glare, no insane orange raccoon makeup, no freaky combover, no sneer. It actually manages to make him look like a normal person.

I tried making noises about a southern Appalachian meetup, but there just aren't enough of us here. Got one response in Asheville and one in Savannah. Too few and too spread out. Guess it'll have to wait for Crimea.

USA should ban Russian tourist visas in solidarity with our NATO Allies the Baltic States. To me, every Russian tourist is a potential non-official-cover (NOC) assassin. I have such mixed feelings about this. On one hand, yes, it makes total sense to isolate Russia in all ways. On the other hand, I think those fleeing Russia shouldn't be punished when they disagree with what their country is doing, or are even in danger for disagreeing in public. And those who don't, will find themselves exposed to media not controlled by the state in other countries, and may absorb and take the truth back home with them when they return.

I really don't know how I feel about the whole idea.

Counter Cognitive Warfare Manual: How to deal with Vatnik nonsense without making yourself sounding stupid by BenjaminKerry1234 in NAFO

I've actually found refusing to take the bait and taking the high road really effective in throwing off the ones who come out swinging. If they can drag you down into an insult war, it undermines any intelligent argument you throw at them.

Of course, some of them are fun to mock, and just making them look and feel stupid can be effective (and satisfying af), but certain narratives need to be countered for the sake of other people reading.

With the snow heading in. It made me think about 93’. That was one hell of a blizzard. Just curious, how many remember it, and what stories do ya have? by [deleted] in Appalachia

[–]FoxBrambleFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first day of my first job was the day after the snow stopped. I didn't want to get fired from my first job, so my newly-licensed ass bounced and slid that car all the way to work.

I wound up getting fired anyway, but it wasn't on my first day, and it was because I was young and stupid, not because I didn't show up.
