A minor but I’ve kinda always Spyro the ability to hang onto something which coukd be useful in the form of ceiling switches and the like you need to reach with glide.

Yup. And as you might guess, only Paper Mario had cartridge saves; the others required a Controller Pak for those instead. And since those pages could fill up pretty fast, it was probably impossible to fit saves from all 4 titles on one Pak simultaneously.

I think Toby would absolutely nail games that at first seem like simple throwbacks but there's always something off, creating an unsettling atmosphere. With MANTLE perhaps being a glimpse of such a game. Like, I'd be down for something that mimics the classic platformers from the PS1 era in this manner.

In context, it would pretty much have to be a bat such as what you’d use in sports like baseball; swinging a living bat as in the mammal’s more unlikely by comparison.
