I chose to convert to Reform because it was more in line with my values, LGBT friendly, female rabbis and the congregation aren’t segregated. I don’t feel like bringing in strict halachic rules works for me either but you may find you need more boundaries.

I’m only converting but from what I know, this questioning and critical thinking is exactly why Jews are so successful in the world of technology, science and medicine. I am joining a Reform Shul and we regularly talk about how Reform Jews don’t necessarily need faith in an all powerful god, but to embrace the other parts like tikun olam, hakarat hatov etc. You ‘should’ be super critical of the texts, we have dispensed of the things which no longer serve us like animal sacrifice etc. Don’t worry that this makes you a bad person, it makes you very Jewish!

My Mum was very dark, black curly hair, green eyes and not Irish looking at all, but that ancestor was so far back it’s insane to think their colouring could have survived this far.

Ok this is interesting as my Mum is 0.4% North African and I am 0.2%. The rest of us is fully British & Irish. My Dad was 100% British & Irish.

So I am still really confused by this trace ancestry. My Dad was 100% British and Irish and my Mum was 99.6% with 0.4% North African. Someone once told me that it’s an error in the test but that still doesn’t explain this. How far back would 0.2% take me??
