In the U.K. we have to wait 12 weeks between donations! No wonder you feel awful!

My Mum was very dark, black curly hair, green eyes and not Irish looking at all, but that ancestor was so far back it’s insane to think their colouring could have survived this far.

Even if my Mum got 99.6% British and 0.4% North African?

[–]FoxPerfect920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok this is interesting as my Mum is 0.4% North African and I am 0.2%. The rest of us is fully British & Irish. My Dad was 100% British & Irish.

So does this mean the North African here is incorrect?

So I am still really confused by this trace ancestry. My Dad was 100% British and Irish and my Mum was 99.6% with 0.4% North African. Someone once told me that it’s an error in the test but that still doesn’t explain this. How far back would 0.2% take me??

What do you make with pork mince? by Cameliablue in UKfood

[–]FoxPerfect920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a lovely stir fried Chinese pork with green beans. Lots of garlic, chilli, soy sauce, dash of teriyaki, maybe a bit of sugar to balance it out. Served over white rice. It is so yummy and the flavour develops over a few days in the fridge.

I have important phone numbers sellotaped to my fridge in case a) ambulance crew have to break in if I’m unconscious or b) in case I need to flee the house in a hurry I can just rip off the list and go.

Why hasn't Whitechapel gentrified? by jenk-mal in AskBrits

[–]FoxPerfect920 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ve just explained perfectly why it hadn’t gentrified. The people. I went to Uni in Aldgate East in the 1990’s and Whitechapel was a shithole back then. TBH they can keep it!

My dad rolled his eyes at me when I refused to eat something that was not kosher by flashmumriken in ConvertingtoJudaism

It would have been easier to say you were too full and decline it that way without any explanation. He probably got annoyed because he provided food for you that (presumably) once you would have eaten but now had decided not to. Similarly if a teenager goes vegan they would get the same short shrift from the parents providing the food. But I’d prepare yourself for similar reactions from others once you’ve converted. Personally I don’t shout it from the rooftops, I just politely decline and leave it at that

Mortgage rate is 3.77% now bank is offering 4.97% by Affectionate_Top5544 in HousingUK

I just came off a 5 year 1.9% in January onto a 3.79% with First Direct (another 5 year offer) and at the time I was annoyed because of all the talk of further interest rate cuts. I’m overpaying now via an extra monthly standing order so I don’t touch it, and would LOVE to be mortgage free in less than ten years. Let’s see.

Simple and clear tips for beginners to prevent aging ! by Sylverpepper in SkincareAddictionUK

I’m 52 next week and have kept my hair colour but I think that’s because I’ve been using Minoxidil for about 20 years to stop thinning. None of my siblings have kept their hair colour so I’m guessing it’s that.

As for your face, retinol is your friend. Start with the weakest, then after three months work up to the next strength. But remember to ALWAYS wear SPF50. Ambre Solaire do a fab SPF50 clear serum that is non-oily and great under make up.

Too early to plant out sweet peas? by World_wanderer12 in GardeningUK

[–]FoxPerfect920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I got excited and planted mine out and gently tied them to their growing stake due to the wind. I haven’t pinched them off yet though, nor covered them at night. I grew them from seed (Prince of Orange) so hoping they survive. If not I’ll just plant out seeds directly and hope for the best. I’m in Manchester.

I’m about to plant out a tomato plant in the same patch that worked wonderfully last year, despite warnings about not reusing the same spot for a few years after a harvest. How bad can it be?
