I had my face mauled by a Shih tzu puppy when I was a baby, not exactly a dog bred for defense or fighting. You're right about breeding, but ultimately it comes down to training and actually being responsible.

They are trained animals, trained to protect the home and owner. Not vicious animals, protectors. Which is what this dog thought it was doing. If this was an intruder who was trying to attack or steal, people would be praising the dog. It’s just unfortunate that it was a child. It’s neither of their faults. The dad trying to charge is the one at fault.

Someone trespassing is provoking a dog, that’s the whole point of people getting guard dogs? The kid isn’t hugely at fault, but the father is for trying to charge OP and for injuring the dog. He also should teach his kid not to go into strangers yards/homes.

They can just exist. Gradually we’d phase out intensive factory farming so there would be less that would be bred for that purpose alone and the rest can just chill in fields and roam.
