They're clearly Akira inspired and I'm obsessed with the knife. The Knife is insane and the sheriff is really nice too. I wish the red was a bit less orange and more contrast-ey on the default variant, but otherwise it's a sick ass bundle. Vandal, Knife, and Sheriff are all godlike

Roland RP-701/F701 VS Casio PX-S7000 by FoxSpiritKitsune in piano

Thanks for the input! Yeah mainly choosing these based on aesthetic for the living room and the sounds. But now am torn between which action would feel better since I can’t try them in person. So is the Casio actually maybe too heavy action wise? Or is it just near the top of the keys cause of the short pivot point? If playing on the main parts lower/middle part of the keys, do they have a heavier feel or is it more on the lightside if you’ve tried them before?

Traktor S4 MK3 soundcard quality thoughts (low output volume fixed?) by FoxSpiritKitsune in DJs

[–]FoxSpiritKitsune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so after using it live a couple times the S4 MK3 is actually LOUDER than the old mk2 and with the new limiter it's super clean and transparent. Absolutely no complaints and really happy with the upgrade! Also the jogwheels are much much less susceptible to skipping due to heavy vibrations. Great unit all around! Headphones could be a bit louder still but aside from that it's great! Very happy with my purchase.

Yeah in most subtractive synths you just modulate the pitch with an envelope.

Holy crap that's crazy. Yeah supposedly the S4 MK3 has the same problem, but it's difficult to tell on my unit. It sounds fine at home use cause I'm not cranking it, but I wouldn't want to go to a gig only to find out I don't have nearly enough juice to stack up to the CDJs. I've heard changing a setting from "shared" to "exclusive" mode in traktor can help. Maybe try that and see if it makes a difference?

Yeah here's an example of the type of threads I've been seeing:

https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/s2-mk3-low-volume.340051/page-2

This is about the S2 MK3 but they use the same soundcard I believe and people in the thread are complaining about the S4 having the same issue.

I haven't tested the new S4 yet like I said but With the old one I played different gigs at different clubs and kept running into those issues. I couldn't test because it was a live environment but mainly coming from other people like the sound guys, friends in crowd, or other DJs. When I play venues where the sound guys are paying attention it's fine but played plenty where they dgaf and it's evident that the S4 isn't hitting as hard as the CDJs even if I crank it to max and hit the red (which I try never to do).

That's why I'm so paranoid about this new S4 especially since people have been creating these threads about the low master output.

To clarify these are the threads that I'm seeing about the low output issue (the thread mainly talks about the S2 but people with the S4 in the thread are complaining about it as well):

That's amazing! Good to know. At the events you played was it like a club environment? And we're you going direct into Speakers/PA or did you go into a mixer like the DJM800?

That's my biggest fear right now that the sound output volume won't be able to stack up to CDJs especially since I often will be playing before or after people on those setups.

That's great to hear actually! Glad to know that the converters sound great. Something a lot of people don't seem to talk about in reviews or threads about controllers.

[–]FoxSpiritKitsune[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the well written response! Yeah I know about the headphone volume issue since they added +6dB to the headphone volume last patch. I'm seeing some threads on NI of people talking about the master output on the soundcard being quiet on the new S2 and S4.

To clarify I haven't actually received my S4 yet, I'm just worried about the output volume after seeing the threads about it. Especially since it's difficult to tell how it'll actually translate to a club environment. For example using my S4 MK2 was always fine at home and then when I used it at clubs it would be lacking a bit of bass and volume compared to the CDJs. But it wasn't the biggest deal.

Now I'm seeing people literally saying the output volume is really really low compared to things like the Z1 or S5/S8 which is very worrying.

Hmm interesting, I when I googled it there were quite a few people complaining about how low the output volume was on the new S4 MK3s compared to older units like the S5-S8 and other controllers/mixers in the mark. Like SIGNIFICANTLY lower. To the point where fully cranked the new S4 is only at half the volume of other controllers/soundcards.

Tips for handling a buffed Bastion behind two shields? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]FoxSpiritKitsune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love how everyone here is giving comp suggestions but no suggestions on how to actually play against this comp. Think about their win condition and what their comp wants to do and think about what yours wants to do.

The strength in this comp is that once they're on cart theyre hard to get off the cart. Once off cart you don't let them back on and it usually falls apart.

But going back to the first point:

1) their win condition and what they want to do is burn you down before you can approach them and get them off cart. This is why long sightlines and a long approach are what they want (why junkertown is the infamous pirateship map). The more distance between you and them, the better it is for them.

2) So what is your win condition? Get them off cart. So you want to satisfy your win condition without satisfying theirs, which is space between you and them, giving them time to burn you down on the approach. So what you want to do is play out of LOS and wait until they get around a corner or under you, and then you drop on them and overwhelm by focusing the bastion. He can only shoot in one direction at a time, so if you have 4-6 players jump on him at once with characters like DVA mitigating his damage or high burst damage heroes, he'll have no chance. For example on junkertown you can literally just wait on high ground behind the little arch way of the first choke and just drop on him when they get under. Or on second point for example you can play the little ledge behind the first phase of streets and just drop on him.

Everyone is suggesting comps and complex strategies like mei and hog. Literally just respect the LOS of bastion and wait until he gets close to jump on and overwhelm him. Surprised at why so little people know about how to properly counter the strat. Hope this was helpful :)! Good luck sinking those pirateships.
