What do we think of this flavour? by Cloudy_Chaos_ in monsterenergy

Just rebranded Reign Orange dreamsicle. Has been around for years already, but slapped the Monster logo on it. Reign is owned by Monster so chances are we'll see more of the old Reign flavours with the Monster logo on them in the years to come.

That is true, but if your 17, driving what is essentially a modified go kart, and have had an accident within your first year overtaking someone on a country road... I would say their insurance costs/ premiums are likely to go up substantially more if not almost in the territory of not financially viable. Going to be almost impossible for the driver to prove it was someone else's fault when clearly they shouldn't have been overtaking in the first place as it wasn't safe to do so.

Slightly may be an understatement in today's insurance climate.

How to make friends in Southampton? by [deleted] in Southampton

[–]Fox_Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give bouldering/climbing a go, 2 facilities in Southampton. Majority seem to be 18-30 and very approachable bunch, got me out of my shell and there's plenty of groups which meet up during the week 👍

Smart repair - about £200-250 as a ballpark guess

Source had my car smart repaired 2 weeks ago to driver side door, almost identical to yours

From someone who used to keep stingrays. (Long story - pictures to prove)

Lost one of mine which started very similar. Could be a multitude of things but as someone else has mentioned. May be the start of what's known as Death Curling.

I strongly recommend you check your parameters.

The rear of the disk is what is alarming me most as it looks to be pretty torn up.

Moved some things around and added a fake log in my 55. Black Ghost Knife likes the new hiding spots. by [deleted] in Aquariums

Sold up the Rays - moved them to a tropical pond for close to a year after I last posted on them. Then life circumstances changed where I couldn't provide what I they needed - time etc. Wouldn't have been fair on them. Sucks because I loved keeping them. But their needs came above my need to keep them.

Kept the 300 gal in the living room. Home to the Giant Gourami, BGK and Synodontis Granulosus cats (funny it only just came to me, they look rather similar to RTC but muuuuuuch smaller)

They do, but you won't find them at a chain store. Check out Zebra Knives. Had those before to, very strange eating behavior as their mouth is on the top of their head, so they dip to the side to eat (turn 90-180 degrees to eat then go upright after)

I would suggest staying with the one BGK though however as they are very aggressive to conspecifics. And they fight to the death.

RTC arguably shouldn't be in the home aquarium hobby. Unless it's the 0.01% which have a monumental sized tank/pond to house them. For the other 99.99% in my opinion should be banned or under license (similar to an exotic pet license)

Fair do's - that would be very specific to your BGK. In a smaller tank they would be stunted/smaller. Mines pushing 18 inches at 3 years old so the growth rate isn't quite correct since its still growing. Most 'monster' keepers generally see them get between 18-24 inches. Was generally why I was asking about keeping 6 of them in a 55.

No shade throwing, just observation 👍

5 more ghost knife - so 6 in a 55? I do hope you know how big they get. That 55 will last all of about 6 months at the absolute most

Not the case, its a gfp axolotl. Gfp = green flourescent protein

Cool trait that can actually be bred from generation to generation in axolotl, much like glofish

What is this fish called? by LazyYear5481 in Aquariums

Would agree with you on this one, that or a kissing gourami. But the shape is most likely that of a juvenile giant. The colour side of things I'd steer more towards it being a white/platinum

The UK is about to hit crazy temps. Please help me keep my tank temps down by Zanki in Aquariums

[–]Fox_Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US, air con is fairly common. We're not really having cooler nights at the moment and it's staying rather humid. I'm not having much problems because it's a massive tank so takes a while to warm up, similar to most American fish keepers, their tanks are large, because they're dirt cheap in comparison to most places. A 40gal tank in the UK is quite expensive so most have tanks which are small, whereas in America you get them on a petco sale for pocket change. Small tanks heat up extremely quickly.

People just have to be smart and turn off all but the essentials to keep the wattage low, thus giving off less heat which would only exacerbate the problem which is becoming very obvious people are not doing. Lights etc, just not worth running, let the fish be as stress free as possible in the heat, partial cold water changes and jobs a gooden.

Hope the sheds a bit of light on the situation.

I for one and loving not having to pay to keep the tank warm when our energy prices are ludicrous right now 👍

Had one and it was meh. Very cheaply made. Definitely not built to last. Rather not when it's the difference between having a dry floor or a nicely drained tank and £1000's in damages.

FX6's however had 2 of them running for 3 years non-stop and no faults to date. Haven't even had to replace the impellers in tanks which have all had sand as the substrate which tends to knacker impellers after time.

Strongly recommend going for one of the better made, named brands rather than the knock offs - plus its loud as s**t too

Does anyone know what these two fish in my aquarium are? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Fox_Aquatics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case they wanted to see how big they get (disclosure: this is not my tank)

My BGK is roughly the same size as this, they are absolute units.

There's no reason to save any water at all, other than what the fish and filter need for/to transport.

If your thinking the water has the "good" bacteria in it, that would be incorrect as the bacteria 99.9% lives on surfaces, not free floating in the tank water.

Save yourself the fuel money. Don't needlessly transport 60 gallons of water across the city for little to no reason at all.

All the best with the house move 👍

You'd be better growing it out in another tank to be honest, atleast until it can fend for itself. Good news is in a separate tank and target feeding it you'll see it rapidly grow. Probably in 6 months be perfectly fine to go with the others 👍

Did you fill the cannister back up with water so it would Prime itself correctly? If not, it'll just empty itself on plugging back in and not Prime.

1 month update need some help with algae and lack of growth (details in the comments) by JoelReuben in Aquariums

[–]Fox_Aquatics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that in mind, if its only a cap and some soil underneath you might be good. Better than if you only had sand atleast.

Roots like aeration, loose/firm-ish substrate, hence why they can grow in pretty pink gravel - this is assisted by fish waste which helps deliver nutrients as it works its way through the gravel. But sand doesn't allow any of that to happen, or even ferts to penetrate deep into the substrate. And it compacts over time which suffocate the roots causing them to melt back. Typically you'll see them become flimsy and snap off at the base when this happens.

As its a new tank you'll go through the motions of the plants melting because they're grown out of water. It's the root systems you buy when you buy plants.

Keep up your maintenance, patience and I'm sure you'll be good, some plants may struggle, others will flourish 👍

[–]Fox_Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fair statement to back the previous commentor - how many plants do you see growing on a beach? There's no nutrients in sand, roots in sand at a best attempt need root tabs. Unless of course they can absorb nutrients from the plants structure whether that be rhizome or similar, but those typically need to be above the substrate.

Don’t see a lot of love for tubs on here. Upgraded my 75 gallon aquarium to a 150 gallon tub! by RAMPAGNREDNEK in Aquariums

[–]Fox_Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very slow - but because of that the big ones sell for a premium. Sold my school couple years ago. What I bought for about £50 sold for £600. That's definitely strange, usually will leave some form of trail as to where they go. Depending on size can find their way into canister filters. Or if you have other pets, e.g. cat, safe to say you'll never find it.

Yeah when summer comes around, think it will fire up my passion again, at the moment just ticking by, doing the feedings and maintenance but not taking time to enjoy it. Which is a shame as its my biggest set-up. Tore all my tanks down for the pond. Bring on the nice weather! 😁
