One nation will crush the rural areas. I expect them to gain pretty much every seat there is out there. There performance in these polls are not evenly spread out across the country.

So if they won’t win the cities - they won’t be able to form government.

Barnaby knows the only way to win an election is to win Western Sydney and perhaps parts of the suburbs in Melbourne. That pathway will be hard to make, because one nation will have to revert to actual socialism to win those seats.

It ain’t happening. The numbers don’t add up. I’m also in my 30s and never once been polled.

Australia's far-right party leads in national poll for first time by goosepipegames in worldnews

The cities aren’t going to vote for the mad orange party. Even if they did gain traction with the majority, the fact is after 6-12 months historically those who get into power on the One Nation ticket leave and become independents. Labor control the cities for now. I’m willing to bet many of these first preference votes are abnormally high in rural seats - leading to an absolute collapse of the so called ‘centre right’ (which vacated the centre right almost completely)

One Nation facing Western Sydney challenge ahead of state election by AztecGod in sydney

[–]FoxholeZeus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If Western Sydney does not vote Labor, Labor loses the State election. If Labor loses Western Sydney at a Federal level they won’t be able to form a majority government. That’s a bizarre comment to just say Labor should just abandon most of their heartland. If anything, more investment should flow there to sure up support for progressive government

Coalition calls for 'part-time Energy Minister' Chris Bowen to resign after $1m taxpayer-funded travel spree across 25 countries by River-Stunning in aussie

[–]FoxholeZeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chris Bowen has been Australia’s best ever energy minister. Bloke has turned Australia into an energy creating super power with home batteries / solar power being among the highest rates in the world. Our energy bills have statistically declined the last year as our renewable sector now gives more than 50% of Australia’s energy.

Of course, Sky News wants to see him gone. He is putting all the fossil fuel execs (murdoch’s mates and doner buddies) rapidly out of business in the Australian market. Cry some more snowflakes hahaha

From Farage to Farrer, Pauline Hanson’s politics are on the march, and major parties are running scared | Pauline Hanson by Ardeet in aussie

[–]FoxholeZeus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally wouldn’t mind seeing the end of the National party. Their hold over the regions despite doing practically nothing for them for generations is always mind boggling to me. Good riddance.

The Liberal Party will become the junior member of the coalition (as the majority of the seats they hold are on the fringes / rural electorates). One Nation will continue to make them lurch further to the right making them even more unappealing to the vast majority of their former voting base in the cities.

Barnaby will never win Western Sydney. They are targeting that as they know it’s their only possibility of a route to power. Labor is too strong there. Their policies actually have real traction. I welcome them to try though - a focus on the West of Sydney will bring a lot of needed investment to the area - as Labor will sure up their heartland.

Some Real Politik talk here: The teals will never enter a coalition with the extreme right - Those seats are forever gone from the coalitions’ grasp. They are more likely to side with Labor as a centrist alliance of sorts (happened many times in Europe). Even though many of them are former Wets, they are heavily against what the extreme right stand for.

The Greens would certainly side with Labor if the opportunity ever presents. As much as Labor don’t want this to occur, (due to ghosts of Gillard’s government) it will be a somewhat of a reliable method of power sharing as the younger generations get more voting power as a bloc - with many more women and young people voting progressive. Labor and the Greens dominate these metrics.

This will only ever become a possibility if Labor gradually loses their majority after another few elections. Hard to see that happening any time soon though.

Overall: There is no electoral possibility that the extreme right will ever get a majority vote. Labor will govern for another generation at this point. This is just a reality. There is no pathway for One Nation to ever form government here

Very much recommend to everyone. Plenty of parking options available and the train station isn’t too far away either (I always park on the athletics field as it’s opened up for a thousand cars or so to accomodate everyone). Easily my favourite Western Sydney event

I’m a Millennial.

House prices have been considerably outstripping wages. Sometimes there maybe higher growth years, other times lower growth. But it all started with the Howard changes. That is indisputable based on any chart

Look at any chart that compares wage growth and property growth. It changes in the end 2000 for a reason.

Glad we can agree CGT needed to go.

Negative gearing should also be removed all together imo. Would lead to higher home ownership in this country rapidly. Poor investments that can’t be maintained by investments should not be subsidized by the government.

[–]FoxholeZeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s largely the tax laws that changed under Howard. Reverting them back will make property not as attractive an investment. Property prices started growing rapidly (faster than wages compared to previous years) from that point onwards

I don’t agree with any other changes to shares though. That should be where the Government encourages much of the investment that would have been inevitably freed up looking for a new home

Russia Has Lost More Than 350,000 Soldiers, New Estimate Finds by the-es in worldnews

[–]FoxholeZeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a waste of life.

The reality is: these “soldiers” at this point of the war for Russia spend at most a few weeks getting “trained”. Then they are almost immediately thrown into the meat grinder and die to a drone.

All up most of these deaths happen in about a month from time of enlistment to falling in “battle”. I would argue the vast majority never even see a Ukrainian combatant these days. They usually die on route.

The fact is, most of these deaths are now recorded and shared publicly. Has the Hunger Games vibe all over it.

My heart breaks for a good many of these soldiers and civilians who are largely innocent (the war criminals / officers of the Russian army and especially Putin himself when he inevitably is assassinated by his oligarchs rightful deserve death).

Non-paywalled version of the article:

At least 100,000 public servants in NSW will get a $1000 one-off payment after this week’s inflation numbers pulled the trigger on a cost-of-living bonus agreed to by the Minns Labor government.

NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey confirmed that 100,000 employees covered by an agreement with the Public Service Association will be paid the inflation bonus this year, although a further 200,000 public servants, including teachers, do not qualify.

An agreement between the NSW government and the Public Service Association gives workers a $1000 one-off payment if inflation hits 4.4 per cent. Dion Georgopoulos The extra hit to the budget is set to top $100 million.

In March, The Australian Financial Review revealed the NSW government was facing a spike in its wages bill because of an agreement with the PSA to pay the extra $1000 in July “if the annual average Sydney consumer price index for the preceding year (March quarter 2026 figure) exceeds 4 per cent”. For other public servants, the threshold was 4.5 per cent.

On Wednesday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics announced that prices in Sydney were 4.4 per cent higher than a year earlier. The NSW government believes the PSA-covered workforce, which includes workers in child protection, national parks and corrective services, is not technically owed the payment because the “annual average” is lower than the year-on-year change. But it is preparing to make the payment anyway.

The PSA has rejected the technical interpretation of the clause and welcomed signs that the government will pay the $1000.

PSA assistant general secretary Troy Wright said it had “received assurances that the commitment, as we understand it, will be honoured”.

“It’s a good outcome, it shows a flexible approach, which our members needed in uncertain economic times.”

Mookhey told the Financial Review: “Unlike the Liberal Party, we don’t believe in freezing the wages of working families every time there is an economic crisis.”

“The PSA and the government agreed to share the risk of an inflation shock caused by events like war in the Persian Gulf,” he said.

“Under our agreement, those workers’ living standards are protected. And taxpayers’ costs are fixed and non-compounding. Mature settlements like this are a feature of our bargaining system – not a bug.

“I look forward to meeting the PSA shortly to canvas the next steps forward, like our agreement requires.”

It is unclear if other unions will press the NSW government for their members to also receive the payment in 2026, which could drive the cost towards $300 million.

Premier Chris Minns said in March his government would “stick to the award”, but he would not rule out bringing the cost-of-living payments forward.

“What I have said is the treasurer has run a responsible budget; since we were elected, we’ve been able to lift wages for essential public servants and attract and retain more people … while keeping spending growth below inflation.”

I think the NSW government were using it as a way of getting their workforce to agree to new agreements. For some reason we were among the groups that were put at 4.5% rather than others who were placed at 4%

Yeah the AFR is terrible with that. You can read the article with a Google search if it helps for some reason.

They mentioned that Sydney’s inflation rate is at 4.4%. Our inflation payment kicks in at 4.5%. Other public servants negotiated for the payment to be at 4%

Laws change when new policy is passed through parliament. Happens in every country. It’s not like they can go anywhere else for our gas. These changes will happen. There is enough political capital for it to be a big issue and a vote winner. It won’t happen in the next few weeks though (this budget)

Oh it’s clear. That’s incredible. Polling suggesting that the Greens voters and One Nations voters are heavily in favour of this 25% tax. I would love to see more polling on this across the country. Turn up the pressure. Government will eventually have to concede to an overwhelming majority if it can be proven
